one sad evo X fact
just read that the 09' ralliart is gonna have the same 4b11 as the evo... but with a different cam, smaller turbo, and remapped ecu..but will have the same sst tranny as the MR, same awd (MINUS s-ayc), and equipped with ACD..... kinda makes the flagship car a little less unique in my eyes.....
so with a new cam, turbo, and remapping, the ralliart has exactly the same motor as evo owners...... kinda takes the appeal out of it in my book.....
the X actually doesnt have a huge huge gap over the ralliart (honeslty) i mean, the S-AYC is the HUGE advantage, a wider track, and a lighter body helps... but compared to earlier ralliarts vs. evo where there wasnt any comparison except chassis.....this time around, the ralliart truly is a baby evo...
i was pretty much set to trade my IX RS in when the new RS come stateside... but after reading about the ralliart.. it makes it harder to ditch the IX....and believe me.. im not a X hater! i love the new X...
i just felt like venting after reading the news

I went to the dealership this weekend to see the new Evo X that just arrived and the dealer said the ralliart will be front wheel drive, not AWD. Although, dealers dont usually know wtf they are talking about.
People think all 4b11 engines are the same... they arent... the block itself has different cooling ducts from the lancer to the X, for example... they have the same name, but that's pretty much it...
As taken from the Mitsu pdf
"Lancer Ralliart is powered by a new 2.0-liter DOHC MIVEC intercooled and turbocharged engine that develops an estimated 235 horsepower. The engine is mated to Mitsubishi's Twin Clutch-SST gearbox that delivers highly-efficient power transmission while enhancing the sporty driving qualities of the vehicle with lightning-quick, silky-smooth, paddle-actuated shifts or programmed fully-auto modes. The Lancer Ralliart's full-time 4WD driveline features Mitsubishi's Active Center Differential (ACD). The ACD unit employs an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch center differential, vectoring drive torque to the front and rear according to different driving conditions to realize the best balance between steering response and traction characteristics on Tarmac, Gravel, or Snow surfaces. Lancer Ralliart is also equipped with a front helical and rear mechanical limited slip differentials.
The Lancer Ralliart exterior is distinguished by its more aggressively styled front bumper design, rear bumper cover, dual outlet muffler and a lightweight aluminum, ducted hood that delivers cooling air to the turbocharger. The interior design places greater emphasis on function and vehicle control. Lancer Ralliart is equipped with FAST key, hands free telephone interface, the same Twin Clutch-SST shifter used on Lancer Evolution, and easily accessible steering column mounted paddle shifters.
Available equipment and options to include: Recaro seats, HID headlights, 650 watt Rockford Fosgate 9-speaker audio system, Sirius satellite radio, power sunroof, and a 30 GB Hard Drive Navigation system"

i see what you mean
BUT
no brembos
no hid's
less chassis reinforcement
no 5 spd manual (which alot of evo owners require for the car to be true to its nature)
lower quality rims
smaller spoiler
I kinda like the ralliart because the previous ralliarts were such PU$$Y cars, 160hp? c'mon now thats BS. Now more people can get into the turbo awd mitsu market.
PLUS you gotta realize with all the new options mitsu has I bet a loaded aero, Navi equipped ralliart is 30k. Then people will cry murder saying for another 2k they can get an evo but once again people never consider options. theres almost 7k in options to get on a 5spd evo. If the base price of the ralliart is 24k and it has the same options, then consider a loaded RA to be 31k. but to get an MR with same options its gonna be like 41k.
BUT again its all relative, because for that extra 10k you'll get:
way better suspension
AYC
BBS wheels/advans
body extension
Brembos
Better chassis
those things would cost way over 10k to convert professionaly and reliably.
Its all relative
You can get the HID's and Recaros as an option. Chassis should be stiffer than in the Evo IX. I'd expect the aftermarkets add a lot of parts to Ralliart. Including suspension, brakes and body.
Still, it is ins't an Evo.

Subaru has had this car for years. It's called the WRX. Mitsubishi is simply filling the performance gap between the Lancer and the Evo.
