Mole Skin Mod

Fianlly got around to doing the moleskin mod. I had my windows tinted on the 08 Lancer GTS and it made streaks soon after. Not sure why they send so much material. I ended up doing both contact patches instead of just the one the directions stated. Time will tell. Good insurance for a mof that only took an hour.

I took my car to a local place here called Highline Customs. They immediately noticed this would be an issue, and replaced the stock rubber liners (interior) with some nice ones that had brushes, and that wont rub the window.

The moleskin prevents the rubber grommet, or whatever that piece is, in the X windows from rubbing on the tint, which causes scratching and streaking.

so why the heck did they put such crappy ones on in the first place? its not like using better ones would decrease their profits too much would it?

Its not that its crappy, its just that the its a much tighter fit then previous cars. This is actually good, since it reduces window rattle etc.

I guess the tint company I went to knew what to do already but didn't mention it cause my tint turned out perfectly, no streaks nor stretching. Lifetime warranty!

moleskin is just a namebrand of a very thin felt that is applied to the inner weather stripping on all doors of the Lancer to prevent streaking after window tint is applied. Mits has the design right but I don't think their engineers thought about the impact of tint scratches. In fact, the whole reason this stuff exists, just shows how many other manufactures have similar inner window seal designs.

Applying the felt lining is pretty easy btw. The door panels come off quite easily, and fortunately, reassemble very easily. All you need to do is remove the stock rubber seal, sand it a bit to make the surface rough, apply some adhesive, and attach the felt. It didnt change the appearance to me much at all, but the tightness is definitely compromised.

I was going to the one in Green Valley but a couple others suggested I go to Premier Window Tinting just off Basic in Henderson.

Check out there website: http://www.premierwindowtinting.com/intro.html

I have my windows tinted on my X but have not noticed this problem. I will take a closer look when I get home. Anyone having this problem with the X or is it mostly GTS related?
