Need help deciding.
Need help deciding.
Hey guys....I have been lurking here since last year and have been reading lots of your threads and posts. I recently had my evo9 stolen and the idiot crashed it so now I am looking for a new car, I went from a Supra to an M3 and now back to the X. I would really like to know if you guys think the X is all its cracked up to be...I would also like to know your opinion on it and if it IS an evolution from the 9 thanks guys.
I think its an amazing and I had an evo 8..... they were great cars (not better or worse), but the new one has a better ride, nicer interior (parts of it anyways)... and the AYC (SAWC) and 4b11 are new challenges.... i think its a good choice... or worse case you can try the 135i... i hear good things? but im sure everyone would want you to stay in the "family"
Grifter,
Funny thing is I have had those type of cars to and an m3 was in the mix after I sold my EVo8. Never had a supra but did build two very powerful ones. One was on the cover of the defuct magazine street power and the other on the cover of Motortrend on a test shootout between tuners import and dometstic back in the nineties. The fun part was building the supra for our company RS akimoto back in 1992 or 3, can't remember. Can you imagine going to the dealer asking for manifold gaskets for a car released only one week. I thought that was kinda fun.
Anyhow, I did have a chance to drive one when my wife and I were looking at them a week ago. Here is my impression based on the type of cars you have had and the simular types of cars I have had. And EVO8 as your data line.
EVO10: Interior is up to par for a car $30k. The 8 was well, let just say it had nice seats and that's about all. I use to tell people that liked my car and say the only problem with it is I feel like I am driving a very fast taxi in the philippines. And of course, I am comparing it to a M3 finish and fit. All this means is you will feel that your money was worth it given you are actually paying 30-40k plus for a car that is normally 19k but it has a steroidic engine. Interior is same but the recaro's on the X are leaps and bounds above the 8's unless you had an MR. Again, the impression of where your money is spent was not felt in the interior of the 8 but it will be on the X.
Performance. They are both quick. They are both performers and they both smoke most anything in that price range.
Exterior: Eyes to the beholder. Both look great and both are very different from the base platform they are modeled after. I tend to like classic shapes myself but the look of the x is awesome. Again, my opinion.
Handling: EVOX far superior. Again comparing an 8 and knowing you had an M3, the ride is fantastic without the titering. A sacrifice engineers make in order to make a car perform well in turns. A sacifice you feel going straight on a bumpy freeway. BMW knows very well how to design car for anti-dive, anti-squat and titering while making the car corner like a freek. The evo is based on a not so optimum platform. However, the X has nixed this a gave the car a great ride. The sacifice is the car is heavier and you can actually feel the difference when compared to the 8. The steering of the x is as good as it gets meaning initial turn-in is as fast as your input, but like those here, something is wrong with the tranny.
So in the end of it all, go for a test drive. I am going to buy one as soon as my wife's lease is over in july actually oct but I have that 90 day clause with no penalty. I can wait, or should I say have to wait since I don't like wasting my money. By that time, more mods will be avail and valid testing performed.
Forgot to mention, I will be leaving my x suspension stock because it is that good! Won't lower it just for looks. I am getting old and my wife will be the one driving it and they seem to not see dips and curbs as well as us. With the aero package, the stance is great. I am 42 years old so a 20 year older will have a completely different opinion. Also, you have had a $60k car so you can acertain my impressions. Meaning you have had something better than an EVO in your past if eyes are only to the beholder. The EVOX is worth it! in gold or should I say platinum nowadays. Funny, I wonder if the gates of heaven were actually platinum instead of gold because platinum is more expensive....
So is it an evolution from the 9..... No, it is an evoulution in motorsports period......
