a cf rook will at the most save a pound or two, not worth the cost, also the canadian mr has a sunroof option so im hoping the future evos will, our summertimes here don't last too long and i like to be able to enjoy it as much as possible while it is. A sunroof really adds to the enjoyment and gives an open air feeling, i hope in the 2009 evo x gsr they offer it as an option here

Well since no one seems to know. I recall hearing that there is an option of a sunroof with a steel roof. The default on both the GSR and MR is the aluminum roof with no sunroof though.

Options and Accessories and whatnot on second to last page.

No, it wasn't listed in the brochure, but I had heard it somewhere... *trying to remember*
I would imagine Canada would be the same. The reason was something about the aluminum being too weak for crashtests or just plain not enough to support a sunroof over the long term. Mitsubishi had found that one way or another, a steel roof would have to be used.

I have the sunroof out of my evo viii with controller and everything. Worked fine when it came out, but I had my whole roof yanked and an MR roof installed. Been sitting around the garage for at least a year gathering dust. You could get it installed in the X by any sunroof company.

PM me if you're interested.

Actually, my local BMW dealer has gotten 4 M3's and 3/4 had the sunroof. I was surprised that so many opted for the sunroof over the CF roof.

The one car that didn't have the sunroof was a black coupe with red leather and the 18" wheels in gunmetal. It was truly wicked...

I bet mitsu offers the sunroof as an option in the future...

Weight at the top of the car raises the center of gravity too much and I guess I'm very weight conscious.

On my E46 M3... there was a mix-up at the dealer, so I ended up getting one in the lot.
A non-sunroof aluminum roof vs. the CSL CF roof was a 13 lbs weight difference.
A sunroof vs. the CSL CF roof was a 48 lbs weight difference.
I think I read somewhere on here that for the Evo IX... a CF roof vs. the stock aluminum roof was like a 2 lbs difference.
I always thought the M3 roof was alumium???
If it is aluminum... what could be causing the 13 lbs weight difference on the M3 vs. the 2 lbs weight difference on the Evo IX???

Anyway... back on topic... like it was said before. If there's demand... it'll happen.
Personally, I'd opt for no roof though.
Not just because of weight, but I live here in Hawaii and I've had my M3 for 3 years. I've only opened my roof up three times. Not to mention, it makes it harder to clean the roof since some of the foam padding soaks in water and streaks water across when I'm drying.

I'm really hoping that when I'm ready to buy that a sunroof option will be available. Financially I'm ready to buy now, but I'm being patient and will wait. What can I say, I love having the wind in my hair...

You guys want a scan of the canadian brochure? On the last page (features), it lists the MR Premium as having power sunroof w/sunshade. It IS steel, (or at least NOT aluminum), since in the exterior feature section, under aluminum body panels, the MR Premium only lists Hood and Fenders, and NOT Hood, Fenders and Roof, like the GSR and MR.
