Quick shift and bog/drop.
Well, I went out and tested the bog between shifts with ASC turned off and there is no difference. I think it's the restrictor pill not engaging the clutch immediately. God the trannys in these cars are garbage. Between the crunchy/grinding shifts, the clutch being too soft and wearing out too quickly like they always have, and the stupid restrictor pill the car just doesn't drive well. Have mitsu trannies always been this poorly made?
I love my X don't get me wrong, but the tranny problems just kill the enjoyment factor for me. I have a very love/hate relationship with my car right now. Mitsu will do nothing for us though, I can promise you this. This is my first mitsu and they are already living up to the reputation that I've heard so much about. Fun car, lots of problems, warranties that don't mean anything. Welcome to the family.

I don't think you understand what we are talking about. The issue is when speed shifting, pimarily from 1st to 2nd, when the clutch is first let out and the gas is mashed the car bogs down and hesitates. Implying that it is our shifting technique is ignorant and I assure you, not the cause of the issue. Some people have issues with their X that others don't, like the crunchy shifting. Shifting gears in my X feels like the tranny is grinding and falling apart. Tell me it's my shifting technique, go ahead. I've been driving manual cars for the last 10 years and have been auto crossing and road racing for the majority or those years. I guess I just suddenly forgot how to drive a stick when I bought my X, right?
I don't feel like getting a warning from SASD209, because he hands them out like candy so I'll leave it at that.

Btw, if you don't experience this bog, I'm 99% sure you're one of those drivers who rides the clutch between shifts [which is not good].
Have you guys noticed that the RPMs drop way too quickly between shifts as well? It made rev matching and blipping the throttle more "conscious" as opposed to an automatic procedure.

My car only does the bog with the ASC on .. it is fine without ..
Maybe, but it seems more like a throttle response thing. I am holding the gas and have the clutch released when it happens already so I thought maybe I am supposed to shift an AWD car differently. Maybe slower or by riding the gas or something?
Honestly I don't think it shifts any different from my IX...seems easier to shift in my opinion...I wish I knew EXACTLY what you were refering to so I could identify it in my car but the only manuals I've ever known are evos.
I got it to do it a bit less by riding the gas pedal. I have an idea, How many of you who have this problem are riding on a cone air filter? I am going to try and put the stock box filter in.
How would I test for boost leak?

It very well could be a tuning issue, where the car is running so rich even with the reflash that it's just bogging down between shifts. This is usually on when your car has an atmospheric BOV, but I guess when cars run as rich as the X does there are always exceptions.
I noticed this happening EVERY shift on a road course with the ASC off, the car stock, and without the reflash. I figured it was something about how I was shifting. car runs like **** and is still faster than everything else on the track!
LoL, yea. It can still hold its own. I'm looking forward to solving this issue though so I can smoothly transition from one gear to the next.
Talked to Mitsu today and they said it's still under investigation, they also said nothings wrong with the transmission its just the feeling everyones worried about. As soon as the resolve this issue my dealer said we would be notified!
This bog feeling is something the Evo 8 had also when stock. As you start to mod it up, and get an ECU flash the quick response comes back between the 1st and 2nd shift. I am not 100% sure of the culprit. I would guess its a combination of problems: too rich after shift, boost taper at high RPM, hesitancy to shift fast, quick releasing stock DV, stock exhaust, cat, and stock tune.
I have a cone intake and EVC and the bog from 1st to 2nd has improved since the installation of the EVC. I do NOT have the new mitsu flash either. The faster you shift, the less bog is there though. So just shift faster if you dont like it, or get more mods.

I'm going to comment on a few of the previous posts on this thread.
1.) It's normal to have some degree of acrid smell from brakes and clutches when new. Both need to bed and drive out oil left from the manufacturing process.
2.) This "bog" is probably a thunking of the clutch. The release point on the clutch is fairly high, too high for my liking but eventually I'll get around to adjusting it, and quick. If you let it out too quickly you get a forward and back jerk, momentum shift, that ends up a bog because you've taken all of the momentum from the flywheel. The flywheels in the X are lighter than previous models and therefore more prone to momentum loss. The answer is to keep your foot in the throttle while shifting. Not like a power shift where the throttle blips to the red line but just enough to keep the RPM's above where they will end up once the cluch is engaged. This is easier on your syncros too.
3.) Free rev RPM float down is a direct result of the rich fuel problem.
Having dirven a lot of cars with full race gear boxes, clutches and lightened flywheels, the X driveline is nothing new to me. It's not as forgiving as most and rewards precision. It took me 1K to get used to it around town but I was immediately at home when pushing it around a track. I'm in fact very surprised about how strong and race inspired this driveline aparantly is.
