Simple and honest question.
The Mustang sounds better. It's faster. It has massive gobs of low-end torque the Evo doesn't. It feels physically larger and more ponderous. The weight difference is obvious. Relative to ordinary cars, it handles on rails. Relative to the Evo, it might as well be a pickup truck. It has a live rear axle that's a reasonable facsimile of IRS until the road becomes rough. Then it feels like a wagon.
To me, if you're going to buy a Mustang, the best choice is a GT with the Bullitt package. It has the best interior, the best exterior, the best suspension tuning, it weighs far less than the supercharged models, and it sounds glorious. And it's not as if 320 HP isn't enough to light up the tires.
Then you can add the supercharger yourself for $6000 later. Not only would it cost less than the GT500 package, the Kenne Belle units are of the same type you'd get on a Ford GT or a Mercedes SLR-McLaren. Lots of high end, lots of low end, and far more efficient than the Roots design Ford used in the GT500.
The point is, $45K is a lot for a Mustang. As an inexpensive V8 ponycar, the Mustang is brilliant, but there's only so much it can be polished before the value equation disappears. $45K is Corvette money. It's 335i with an ECU modification money. And of course, Evo money with the same ECU changes and $5000 in the trunk.
Test-drive them all.

But you will get a car that hangs a hell of alot better in the twisty stuff. The gt500 is very nose heavy also due to the iron block and supercharger, thing handles like a pig. If you want a mustang that's fast and handles well, I would look into a roush gt. Look up the top gear video where they test them head to head.
Consider warranty when making a selection! Mitsubishi sucks at standing up for their products... at least here in Puerto Rico! Some examples: Brembos peeling, 4th gear grind at 12K miles, corrosion spots under spoiler, transfers, etc. Good luck with he dealers to get them replaced/corrected!
My IX was my last Evo... by the way... they are not selling well here!
If you are going to drop 40K or more consider that as part of your investment!
Just my 0.02!

Well...
You are asking on an EVO forum so is that an indication of your decision?
Only you can answer that question!
It depends on so many factors.
1) Is it gonna be your only car? IE DD/ Weekend special/ Track car/ Auto X/ Drag racer.
2) How much money are you willing to spend?
3) Why not both cars?
4) Do you really want other people to make decisions regarding the expenditure of your money for you?

does not stand by there warranties and will try at all costs to VOID it if you own an EVO.The IX doesn't sell well here because most people are asking ridiculous prices for their cars.
Statistacly cars are never good investments...
