Simple and honest question.

Should I go for a 08-09 ShelbyGT-500 or the Evo X MR? What do you guys think. Don't say Evo just because this is a Evo forum. Be realistic and give me a sincere answer, please.

What are you going to be doing with this car? If it's going to be a daily driver, the Evo is more practical in my opinion. It has a real rear seat. If you're going to be a drag strip junkie, the ShelbyGT-500. I know people are going to say the Evo has straight line power, but I'm sorry, if you want a kick in the nuts go fast from a dead stop in a straight line, my vote will always be American muscle. On the other hand, if you're going to be a track junkie, the Evo X with S-AWC will hands down own the Shelby. There's pluses and minuses to both really. First and foremost, figure out what you want the car for, and take it from there. Good luck with your purchase. I'm certain, either way, you'll be very pleased.

GT500s are cool but I'd get the Evo. And thats not because this is the Evo forum, its because I already have a true vintage musclecar. Youre going to get about the same wow factor in either one. Like Lords said, massive Pros and Cons. When you starty hitting the backroads youll want the evo. And when you want to run down some ricer youll want the GT. With gas costing as much as it is I'd have a tough time justifying the GT500. Granted the Evo isnt the king of MPG, but I'd imagine its a step in the right direction over the Ford. Also, insurance is probably going to tip their hat at the EVo.

According to your sig, you should get the GT500. You won't be tearing any asphalt with the Evo son. AWDs have great work done to them to have better grip on the road.

Looks like you are tring to buy a car that does everything. Mustang for low-end torque and straight line speed. Evo for everything else.... Why not save yourself lots of money not buying a Mustang and pour your money into the Evo. Then you'll have both straight line speed and Lateral G's to fulfill your every need. You won't need to spend boat loads of money to make your Evo much faster. You need to make this decision quickly though. Mr's are going to be all spoken for before you know it. #250 est. shipped to the states for the first year. Not every dealer will even get ONE!!!

Just comparing the cars against each other is a tough one because they are very different. I believe the pricing is very different as well.

Like lords3t said, let us know more about what you want in a car and what you plan to do. Then we could tell you.

I personally would choose the Mustang over the Evo, but it's a nostalgic thing for me (my dad and I rebuilt a '69 Mustang 15 years ago when I was in high school).

The mustang is badass, period. Get it if you can afford the gas and car.

as stated it depends on what you like.... Drag racing or autoX / road racing?

The evo can do 4 wheel drifts pretty easily now.... And very controlled.... The mustang is still very cool, but the practicality is the evo as well as lots of fun vs the huge risk / reward of a 500hp rwd muscle car

The Mustang is hampered by the live rear axle Fords been using since the dawn of time! The GT500 should produce way better numbers for a 500 hp car, period! The back seats are impractical and the rear drive will absolutely suck in the rain. It comes down to you, test drive both and decide after words, the EVO also has a 5 star crash test rating!

If you plan to have more than one friend in your car, your buds will be fighting for shotgun. Back seat sucks. Evo and Mustang owner here. I know this has nothing to do with power, just something to consider. My son hates when we take out the mustang vs the evo.

Gas is getting more and more expensive and won't get any cheaper. At some point your wallet may buckle from the money you have to spend on gas. But then again, maybe you are rich and can afford the gas. But then I would think you would be looking at a BMW or something similar.

The Evo has it all, but the mustang don't.

I can't believe that people are making an argument about the evo being more gas efficient. Gas is not a consideration when buying a sport/performance car, and arguing the evo is better because its more fuel efficient is retarded because the evo is not fuel efficient.

Second, this is really a dumb question to ask, no offense. They are 2 completely different cars and I think you already know the differences. For the money the evo is probably a better bargain, however the gt-500 would be an awesome car to own. Especially since you can drive around knowing your stang owns all other stangs. Only advice anyone here can give you is: buy whichever you like more.

Thanks a ton for the feedback everyone. I just wanted to hear what's on people's minds. GT-500 been my dream car since I knew what a muscle car was. When I heard it was coming out in 05 as a 07 model, I blew my load completely. Thing is that people payed over 70k cash and I don't got that kind of money. So, I looked for a Evo since all I read about them is that they are insane for the money. I been hunting down the X since October and 2 weeks ago I find out that some ppl selling GT-500s at MSRP. So, now I'm going crazy. I love the GT-500 more but, the X is far more practical with it's 4 doors. Also, a little cheaper. Anyways, thanks again guys! =)

gt500 is always gonna be a badass car....no matter what.....evo x will be replaced with an evo XI and things will move on....plus there are way more evo's out there than gt500's, would be nice to see one of those beasts once in a while

edit: gt500 looks 200000x better than the evo x
