Wow, these threads so irritate me, because the OPs always provide few details on what exactly they are looking for out of their next car. I mean it is especially difficult when comparing two vastily different cars. I mean are you looking to mod or do you plan to keep it stock? What is more important to you, a comfortable attractive daily driver or a rough aound the edges but overall an awesome performance package? I mean the cars are very different, I mean if you do plan to seriously mod, then the E46 M3 isn't the car for you and I am not saying the EVO is the car, but there are other choices out there that cost less to mod and give you more bang for your buck. You can spend a cool $2,000 to $3,000 on a E46 M3 and barely crack the 12s and then you will get the stuffing stomped out of you by a JB2 or Procede 335i, LOL. If you plan to keep the car pretty much stock and drive it day to day and enjoy the comfort, then by all means the E46 M3 is a perfectly capable car.

Tough call:

E46 Pros:
Looks great
Luxury
Good power
RWD is more fun

Cons:
Used car
Medium mileage
you are buying that person's headaches
Maintenance cost
high price of upgrading
------------------------------------------------------------
Evo X Pros:
Brand new car
low price of upgrading

Cons:
poorly constructed interior (seats)
Mitsu infamous warranty

Take this list and add your thoughts. Get everything down on paper then make your decision. You cant go wrong with either choice

Why do you say that, because it is a BMW? Like I said we need to know more of what he is looking for before we can give good advice. What if he is looking for a car with awesome handling and that he can mod to 350-360whp with not much money spent, still think the E46 anyday

You cant thumbdown any support for either car. For different people different cars will suit them better, from his perspective the e46 is a better DD.

I think Rez's comment is because in terms of a car you will WANT to drive everyday, the e46 is much higher than the evo, there is far less to dislike about a e46 everyday than an evo, although it comes at the price of a couple performance downsides.

+1

Not caring about which drive train platform to choose? It sounds like something a poser would say. Exactly what mtags said, you just want a cool, fast car. Buying a car to get pu$$y?

.....yeah, go stick with the m3. Just don't become another wannabe and get a CT9A, ok?

As far as build quality, fit and finish, out of box performance, class, and style, there is no comparison between the two cars.

The X may preform similar to the M3 (stock for stock), but it will NOT out preform it untill it is modded. And still at that point, with the current modding available, the X will not dust any M3. And remember, the M3 is somewhat mod friendly as well. It may cost more money, but the mods available are reliable and usually of high quality.

The X makes anywhere from 225-250whp down stock, the M3 makes around 285whp stock. So the X already has some catching up to do.

Maybe it's cause i'm getting older (28, which isn't really that old), and i have more of a respect for a car as a whole.

But i have had a lot of experience with BOTH cars.

and like i said.............There is no comparison between the two.

and no. it's not just because it's a BMW.

Posers/people with small dinks that mainly care about their image, status, comfort, and luxury = M3.

People that mainly care about performance = Evo

If you know who you are than you will know which car you want.

Opps, my bad. I saw Evo X so I assumed that he's comparing it to the new E92 M3. I figured that you would compare something new to something else that's new.
