I don't like the idea of the X being all around slower than the IX but then again I'm not in the market for one. I think it's a great car but it'll never be the ALL OUT TRACK BEAST that the VIII/IX's are....whether it's DRAG or ROAD COURSE.....so all of the FANBOYS/HATERS ALIKE can keep argueing because deep down we all know which is the better performer.
yes we do ...

You read what Nutahara had to say about the X, correct?

"I found the suspension better than the Evo IX," reported Nutahara. "Asphalt in this test has many results, and [it] would have been quite complicated to guide the IX here.

"The car is much easier to drive, and the engine also responds better," continued Nutahara. "The only obstacle is that this car is 100 kg heavier."

I think the X hating 9 drivers need to pipe down on their assumptions, I trust a WRC driver over the good ole boys and street racers.

Strip it down to a shell like any other race car and yes it'll probably fair better, but most of us aren't track junkies and will never strip our cars so for "US" guys that will only cruise the streets with it and do a little spirited driving or occassional weekend dragging will out perform hands down. WRC results don't equal daily driver results.

2 tenths slower man, and handles way better! Not to mention it's actually safe to step into an EVO now, unlike their 2 star crash test ratings prior to the X!

whatever you say. If I just spent more money to go slower then I would be scrounging around for reasons to justify it too.

you sound mad. the X is giving great gains with simple mods, and there's still room for improvement.

You think maybe 2-3 tenths of a second is a big enough difference to feel? Did you see the amount of power that is being made from an UNTUNED X with boltons?
Jesus....are you insecure or something?

X is nice and does or will outperform the IX in just about every aspect...that being said, i personally prefer the IX because of "feel". I got out of an STI and into the Evo because I feel like I am part of the car as it performs every function. The X is much more civilized and will improve the demographic for sales and marketing, but for me, it has lost that special something that the VIII and IX posess.

I will admit they are night and day (9 to X), however the X is as much an Evo as the previous generations. Things change and I feel Mitsubishi has improved the Evolution, the speed is still there, she handles like a dream not to mention all the creature comforts you could never have with the 9 (stock)! Too each their own, but don't bash the X because your envious! If you're not feeling the X, why even visit the message-board esp. in the X column???

I enjoy all EVO's (old or new), respect the fact Mitsubishi kept the car's heritage in mind! I did not purchase the EVO to street race nor did I purchase the EVO because I saw 2 fast 2 furious... I bought the EVO because it's a world renowned AWD turbo RALLY ROCKET that's won countless championships! You'll never hear me bash any GEN EVO (EVER), they all served a purpose, however the 9's time was over and the X has stepped in to fill it's shoes (which it's done gracefully)!

Well I was bashing because I get hot headed sometimes and I do agree with what you're saying. The X is not for me and I'll leave it at that. It has responded well to mods and is making big improvements.

i actually got my X cheaper, then my 04 VIII...
only with ecu reflash, bone stock X is makes 315 whp and 312 wtq on dyno jet.../base line is 248 whp -268 wtq so, that is 17 % drive train loss on that dyno./
Which is makes the the X with only ecu tune on crank aprox: 368 bhp - 365 wtq You got to love it!

Also, all those test where the X loses 0.2-0.3 sec vs IX in drag is the factory crappy tune.
i would like to see the tests after retune.
i highly doubt even with 200lb extra the X will be slower then a factory IX with only reflash.

more info about the reflash only numbers:
