LOL, I don't know if you should label me as "knowing what I'm talking about", it's just the math part I can do.

I paid cash for my car and I didn't negotiate price. I bought it from South Coast Mitsu in California and shipped it across country, $30,589 no options GSR. South Coast probably has the best prices but you have to ship. If I needed to buy local, I would probably start with South Coast's price for car plus options and see how close I could get to it locally. When I was looking locally, nobody was dealing on price. That was two months ago. The local dealer still has the same three EvoX's now that they had two months ago, so I suspect they are more negotiable now.

Go make an offer to the local dealer for the price and see what interest rate they give you. Or if you are willing to ship, call Sam at South Coast and see what he says. Actually, they have posted thier pricing right on this website, so looking it up should be easy.

If you don't like the manual, wait a couple months and get a Ralliart for a lot less money and still have a turbocharged Lancer! Do this especially if the Evo is out of your budget. Don't squeeze it too tight.

Lets say $475 for 72 = $34,200
Plus a $2000 down
Plus your trade in of lets say $5,000

That makes that Evo X over $41K

I would say that, that's a bit over priced. Some dealer are selling it for $31K

I paid $775 to ship from LA area CA to Raleigh area NC. It would have been $595 but I bought the extra insurance.

they are desparate to make deals....the sticker was saying 33680 for mine. i got them down to 28k. you can go to angles if you don't want to talk about getting the total price of the car down....tell them you're looking for a payment you can live with and you don't want to pay for more than 60 months. see what they give you. they will make your deal for you...just push on.

don't go over 60 months 72 will take too long to build equity in case you want to get rid of it in a couple of years. new cars come out all the time. and sure she's shiny and new now but not in 3 years.

Go here http://www.edmunds.com/new/2008/mits...45/prices.html

Do the price with options and offer the dealer the Invoice price through email. Never ever negotiate car deals in person, the salesman is a trained professional and you will lose. If they come back with a counter offer, go $200 over Invoice but don't pay a dime more than that and be prepared to walk away. Don't make it an emotional decision or they will rape you.

well after talking another 2 hours, and offering to put another 1000 down, which is 3000 down total, plus another 5000 for my trade in, i got them to $488 a month, for 72 months, which is $35,136. the interest rate is 5.9%.

the car has the SSS package, Aero kit, wheel locks, and the shift knob/e-brake knob which puts the car at $38,078, is this good, or can i do better?

EDIT: the invoice price on edmunds is $35,391

Sounds like you are making good progress, the only question mark now is your trade in. You can also use Edmunds to get an idea on what your car is worth: http://www.edmunds.com/used/index.html

there was a used one same as mine, for $21,998 with 6000 miles, mine only has 4200 miles so i assume it would be a few hundred more maybe? mine is fully loaded, navi and sunroof and all.

i still owe $12,582, and he said they gave me $5000 for it after the payoff amount, so like $17,500, but it sucks that there isnt an actual trade-in value for the 08 lancer yet, so i cant get a real price for trading it in.

Trade in value is notoriously hard to nail down, it's probably where the delear see their value in the deal, they give you 17.5k and sell it for 21K so they don't mind a couple hundred less than Invoice for the Evo. If you finance through them they also make money on the financing, they get a kickback from the bank. You must still figure in the sales tax and title and license. Insurance is way high for an Evo, you can get a quote online to make sure you can afford the total payment and still have money for food.

5.9% interest is pretty high. A good rate would be 4.25 or 4.5 depending on your credit rating. You don't have to take the dealer's financing, you can shop around. If your job has a credit union, that's where you should start.
