Tip on washing the X?

so my first time washing the X yesterday and lets just say it got a little messy. I never had a car with hood vents before. When i wash the hood do i make sure i dont get any water into the hood? kinda hard to do so. what about rain? down pour? bad right? also notice the center vent is right above the turbo. any chance of it rusting out metal parts? i know people wash down their engine all the time but damn!

ok so a little water is ok but what about when it seaps(sp?) into metal, can it cause rust?

I think you've got better things to worry about than water from your car wash accelerating the rusting process.

If it helps you sleep better at night, you can probably cover up the vents. It's more of a waste of time than anything though. Like someone else said just wash your car like any normal one without hood vents. It's not going to hurt anything.

All aluminum hood/fenders and roof. The rain won't hurt those vents/ducts nor will washing (not to mention the intake manifold cover is a durable plastic). I usually lift the hood and dry under neath after I've finished a majority of the car. Note to all, always wet your car down before you start to scrub her clean, your clear will love you for this!

umm... don't you just turn the car on and/or drive it. the engine gets hot enough to evaporate any water that seeps into the engine bay no? well that's what i do anyways... i figure the heat from the engine and underhood circulation when driving would dry it up enough. heck isn't most of what's under the hood aluminum anyways?

I will say that my X's first wash yesterday was much more difficult and time consuming than my VIII ever was. The hood vents are kind of tricky in the X. In the VIII you just had to spray away from the vent groves. But the X has one vent pointing toward the front and one pointing toward the back. When you lift the hood to dry the X's engine bay water drips everywhere!

yeah count on detailing the motor if your clumsy enough to spray a bunch of water in the vents.

Make sure your using Micro Fiber to clean, wax and dry. If your still using towels and old rags your messin with the finsh of your brand new car
