Price of gas vs. Evo X owners

I paid $3.99 a gallon to put 93 octane in the Evo today. To add insult to injury, our state now has that lovely Ethanol mixed swill. I have been driving for nineteen years, and these past few weeks are the first time I have adapted my driving style to try to get more MPG. It is working, but it makes for soulless travel.

Three years ago, I was paying this exact price for leaded 110 octane race gas in my VIII, which I ran very rarely due to its cost. I look back on that and laugh! I would love to get 110 octane for four bucks a gallon.

My wife and I commute together, but we ain't gonna be taking the Evo. I doubt I will drive it more than once a week until the price of fuel simmers down (if it even does).

More and more states are going to the ethanol mix. Basically they are just taking 89 octane, mixing 10% ethanol with it and turning it into 93. Kind of joke in my opinion. They save money, but the consumer still has to pay $4.00 a gallon.

We used to be able to get Sunoco 94 here in PA until they started blending the ethanol BS.

$3.99??? We've been paying that in CA for quite some time now. We are in the $4.15 range in the East Bay, and SF is more like $4.30+

See this is why I never made my 2nd evo fast. I always went a different direction. Now I enjoy a show winning car that gets 30 mpg.

The only way Seth's X will get 26mpg, is if someone else is driving it.

Then I don't understand why you payed $30k+ for a vehicle you will only drive once a week. You knew what gas costs, and that it's only going to get higher. Maybe you shouldn't have gone for the Evo, and something more practical if you're too worried about gas mileage.

with aggressive driving, i get 16-18mpg, average of 18-20.5mpg mixed and 21.5 has been my best mpg on my X. How on earth are you guys talking 26 mpg? Am I missing something?

Gas is $3.89ish here and my commute is over 80 miles roundtrip 4 days a week. The others are just 10. I'm putting gas in the evo twice a week. During the commute I'll average 24mpg or so heading home. And thats a pretty drastic elevation change. Obviously, going to work, downhill, I get around 26mph, close to 27.

I don't think it's so much the issue of worrying about milage...but for the daily boring commute it doesn't make sense to drive the Evo if you don't have to. I drive my X about once or twice a week...while the Mazda beater gets commute duty.

However...I don't think it's a waste to have the Evo sit for most of the week because when I do drive it...I can drive it like it was meant to be driven...I'm sure that Noize sees it this way as well.

There are variations of economy depending on where you live. $4.30 is bad for you $3.95 is bad for me. The cost of living is higher in Cali.
