Mitsu posts May sales...Evo X sells 351 units
I saw 5 or 6 Evo X's sitting outside at Nashua Mitsubishi yesterday when I went to pick up an oil filter... I looked at the price tag on them and they want 39k for them so im sure that isnt helping either.
MItsu USA is clue less about the state of their brand... its so sad... they have such potential.. but their would be buyers are choosing KIAs and hyundais instead...
I'm not a doctor but I make a decent living and I chose the Evo over the 335i for the exact same reason (can't swing a dead cat and not hit a 3 series around here).
That and the Evo is faster
(and cheaper really).ETA: the Evo is my only car. My wife has her mommy mobile and I have my "grabbit" car (as my son calls it because the wing looks like the handle on a shopping cart).
these guys suck, sorry dont mean to rant.
i wanted to buy the black one, they strung me along for over a month with negotiating price and trade in, and then kept throwing out different trade in and finance numbers.
i finally gave in and said, ok, lets do it, call the manager and he gave me the " yes, i i have couple of customers here but i will call you back." He never did, maybe thats why they not sold one yet
stay away from that dealership

It seems like Mitsu is SLOWLY improving around here. A few years ago the only car I would ever consider buying the is Evo ix. Now I wouldnt mind having the regular lancer. Even though the eclipse is a girls car they really designed it well. Even the raider and whatever SUV is in the commercials looks good. So they improved their products. Their commercials are pretty cool and they have good deals so they seem to be improving in the marketing area. The one thing that is killing them is dealerships. They are few and far between and customer service is horrible! they charge you well above msrp and then treat you like crap. they act like they dont want your sales but its obvious they are suffering. All they need to do is improve customer service. They have good cars and marketing to get you into the dealership. Now they just need good people to sell and keep you happy.
I fixed that above for you.
I had one as a loaner and man, while it was decent, there is no way I'd buy one given it's competition.
It was a year old and little pieces were falling off (4x4 knob), radio severly was bad, seats were horribly uncomfortable.
I'd be looking at an Xterra (more powerful, more expensive), Equinox and CR-V before looking at an Outlander.
Just my 2 cents from about 2.5 hours of commute in one.

lol, thats funny....
its not that bad, i sell Honda too... the V6 outlander gas mileage is close to the 4 cylinder CRV and uses reg gas...(with much more power), and great crash ratings... you can get things you cant get in the CRV like bluetooth, hard drive, paddle shifters, better audio, dvd, hid's, 3rd row seats (barely) etc.... and prices are similar if not lower on the outlander with rebates and finance specials.....

Thats how it was when I bought my 02 Lancer there but come month end I am sure some deals could be made.
WADAD
I don't see how Mitsu is going to be able to vamp up enough sales to warrant a huge hike in production output.
Although Mitsu is attempting to please a larger, and more refined majority of the poplus, 351 units nationwide in one month clearly shows that the EVO is appealing to a much different crowd.
Hell, Mercedes sells more AMGs in a month than the EVO X is doing right now.
With the current state of the economy, new releases from other manufacturers, and energy prices, it is going to be hard to push the EVO X sales further without some incentive; perhaps a carry over of the previous warranty on the EVO IXs.
10yr/100,000 mile powertrain instead of 5yr/60,000
and
5yr/60,000 bumper to bumper instead of 3yr/30,000
I think the warranty reduction is a cost cutting tool used on cars where buyers are more prone to causing damage, than by normal wear and tear. Also, it shows Mitsu. view point on the new X; basically it could go either way in terms of reliability and quality. Please god don't let this new evo become what the first 350Zs were; slow pigs that feathered front tires every 3,000 miles, and anything but the polished finished product that current 350Zs are.

I will be real with this ppost. As much as i love my evo, real is real. people are not buying the evo like mitsu thought. And with greddy dealers putting a markup on these cars is not helping. If your a doctor or whatever you are, 351 evo's for the month does not show how the middle class is flocking to the evo. Mitsu on a whole sucks in sales. They are doing worse than the industry. I do notice that when you go to a honda dealership, they can't keep civics on the showroom floor. In fact Honda had an increase due to the civic's. If you draw a parallel with the regular lancers, they have better audio sound than the civic, they have dvd navi, bluetooth, and a little more hp. But sales suck. The lancers don't even come close to that of the civics carollas or even hyndia. This economy does not help the evo x at all but it seems that even the regular duty cars are not getting any love either.
Mitsu needs to do somthing ( if there is somthing they can do) Because they are dead last in almost everything

I doubt anyone with responsibilities (family, house, etc) on an average salary is looking for a toy or a high cost daily driver in the given economy. I suspect very few of the people that you described are buying a Mercedes or BMW.
The sales issues with the EvoX right now is mostly economy and fuel cost based, and a small mount is based on perception. Look at new cars sales in general, everything is down. Except for Smart cars and those stupid three wheeled scooters I keep seeing everywhere. I've seen more "Smart" cars on the road than I have seen EvoX's. Heck, I've seen more Smart cars than EvoX's and 135i's and new performance cars in general combined.
Public perception is turning way from Hummers and Escalades and now the people who need the flashy status oriented vehicle are buying Smart cars and three wheeled scooters. LOL.
