Phantom vs Tarmac Black...

What exactly is the difference between the 2?

The dealer told me they no longer use Phantom black for the EVO X, and the only difference is the Phantom black has a pearl effect. True?

Thanks.

A true black is not available for the X, at least not yet. The closest thing we can get to a black is the Phantom Black and yes, it is an extra cost paint.

The Phantom black, IMHO, is not a true black. In bright light, the paint will look like a dark graphite grey at some angles, and in other angles the paint will look bronze or brown due to the gold flakes in the paint. Although not a true black, I think the paint looks amazing and distinctive.

Thanks for the replies. How is it compared to the Tarmac black though? And is there any true to what the dealer said about Phantom Black being replaced by Tarmac?

I was also told by the dealer that the PB was a "Limited" release color. Not sure if that's true or if he just wanted the sale. Either case, I wanted no other color the second I saw it for myself. Another thing he told me was the mine was the only PB in Orange County. If anyone in O.C. California has one, let me know so I can go back to the dealer and call them out for fun. Thanks in advance.

Tarmac black isn't a pearl, it's a metallic black with blue/purple-ish flake in it, IIRC.

Yeah, I knew they were full of sh*t. On the other hand, where are all the X owners? I'm probably not driving in the right areas, but I haven't seen one Evo X.

Dirt? Swirl marks?

Those are issues on any car color.

Nothing a garage and some diligent cleaning and detailing can't take care of.
