Meth vs Race gas
Just wondering why people use Race gas instead of Meth. Meth is so much cheaper and just as good from what I heard. Is there a really big difference between the two or do people just perfer race gas and spend all that money. Is Meth just as safe as race gas or no. Inputs plz.
Meth burns WAY hotter than race gas most engines won't stand the heat. Plus its very expensive to build a block to take the meth. though it does make more power its not really cost effective for a "amateur" driver (not a professional) to have to rip the motor all the way to the block after each race. Since i don't do it (race professionally) i don't really wanna have to tear down to the block and rebuild after every race weekend or every race. Plus race gas is much easier to build an engine around. Its alot of variables but thats my input
race gas cant malfunction, anything goes wrong with the meth kit, failsafe help, but not eliminate, do a search the list of engines blown on meth is long, a local guy blew 2 now went to race gas, 2 tunes.

but thanks for you input anyways

I hate meth and will never run it. Its a little more advantageous for a stock turbo since its cooling properties let you overspin the turbo a bit, but the stock X turbo sucks anyway, and won't benefit much from better fuel like a big turbo will.
Meth requires a separate tank, special plumbing, and burns clear, which could be scary in an accident. It also requires drastically different mapping than race gas, since the stoich properties of methanol are so different than gasoline.
I ran race gas on my 30R Evo VIII with great results. On a bigger turbo like that, it made every bit as good or better results than any meth Evo on similar turbo I'd seen.
Meth might be popular for street racers, who want to flip a switch and have their car set to go fast on the fly. Race gas to me is more reliable, from the same fuel system, same delivery route, much less chance of failure. Race gas for the win.

Used to run methanol in a race series.....It does NOT make more power, it actually makes less/gallon. It does allow you to run a better mixture once set up BUT you would be on your own for tunning.
The biggest problem I see is it will dry out all your rubber seals and can scar your block and cylinders. We used to run gas through the engine after ever race to get most of it out...and we rebuilt the engines (well....the mechanics did) after ever race weekend replacing all the seals.
Not worth it for the type of racing you are likely to do.

I think some people here on thinking race gas and meth are the primary source of fuel. That is NOT what he is talking about here. He is comparing race gas to meth injection.
I don't know why the one person said you need to change the seals in the engine. He must be referring to methanol as a primary fuel source, not meth injection. There is SO LITTLE meth injected, it does not hurt the seals. You would have to run it heavily for a LONG time to make any difference.
Now, onto the question at hand. I think anyone would agree race gas is better to use than meth injection. With that said, most people cannot afford to run race gas every day, nor is race gas available at every gas station.
Therefore, meth injection is a great way to run higher boost daily. If your car is a track car, then use race gas. If you want more power for the street on a daily basis, then meth is the way to go.
Many people have run meth injection on this forum with no ill effects. I had it on my car for 30,000 miles with 0 problems!!! Every day for two years. If you go to a good tuner who knows what they are doing, you will be fine.
