drive further and get the right fuel, or if you have a programable EMS have it tuned for the fuel in your area. you can technically have your car tuned to run on anything(gasoline), sure you might take a power hit but the safety will remain.

it must suck to have to deal with 91. pretty much every station i've ever seen is 93. every once in a while you'll stumble across a 92, but that's rare.

In the UK it seems most sell octane 97, and the sticker in the petrol cap says 98.
Will this cause a problem for me please?

Glad my HFS-5 is sitting on the bench waiting to be installed in my X.... 89 + 1200cc/min 100% VP M1..........

I don't think it will come to that but it's nice to have the option.

premium gas is regular gas with cooling additives to quell detonation. Those additives hurt btu(s).

If you could keep out of boost you would get more power out of regular than premium.

not saying you should, who can keep out of boost. Some one with water/ meth might get away with it.

Add a couple gallons of 100 octane to each tank of 90.

In fact, I add a couple gallons of 100 octane to a tank of 92 when traveling long distances on the highway to extend the refill interval. It is not necessarily cost-effective (it ends up costing a tiny bit more per mile than straight 92) but not having to stop for gas until 350 miles is good.

Isn't the octane rating system different overseas? Like their 98 ron is equivalent to our 93? more info...http://www.petrolprices.com/about-fuel.html

NM has 90 octane, and 86 regular, 88 mid grade. Try that

1: The sales of Premium are going down with the people that buy it for cars that don't 'require' it... thinking that it's somehow better or cleaner for their car... (which of course we all know is not the case) cars with high compression or boost usually will require 91 (which I believe someone already pointed out)
2: it's pretty much a misnomer to think the higher the octane the better, my truck runs on 116 but guess what, if I don't reprogram the ECU it will do nothing... I may as well be running 91 in it...
3: water/meth injection does a couple of things... a: it helps you run cooler b: it allows you to advance your timing... obviously this means more power...

Lastly, I'm no tuner, nor am I an expert on anything to do with cars, but I'm pretty certain that what i've stated is correct.

and that's my 2 cents... oh by the way.... I can't see unocal/shell/chevron doing this anyway... (as most people already agreed)... especially in socal... too many vehicles here require it...

I agree with most things you said. However, (and I could be wrong) stations like Shell claim their V-Power 93 has special additives and detergents to help keep valves, injectors, combustion chamber, etc. clean. Now I don't doubt the fact that stations like Shell, Sunoco, and BP (Amoco) do have a higher concentration of these cleansing agents and additives than stations like Sheetz and Get-go. I don't think, however, that Regular 87 has these same additives. So, many guys with cars not requiring premium fill up with 91 or 93 on occation. They do so to benefit from the purer, more refined, and better cleansing fuel more so than to benefit from higher performance. I've always heard stories about failing emmisions barely and shops suggesting to run on a tank of 93 instead of 87 for a week supposedly because it may help. Now a lot of this could be myths, but I do beleive that brand name premium fuel is the best way to go for anyone no matter what you drive. Sure it may be a waste to run 93 in a Civic, but chances of carbon deposits and such will be lower on a car run strictly on 93 than on a car run on stricly 87.
