Cheapest Shipping?

Hey Guys,

I'm near Chicago and the dealers here are still in the clouds with their pricing on the MR. This means there is a pretty good chance I'll be buying the car from a non local dealer. Does anyone have recommendations on low cost ways/companies for shipping new cars?

thanks

Low cost and shipping = bad things to your new Evo X

Honestly, you'll want a reputable company more than you'll ever want a cheap company to ship your brand new car. There are too many horror stories on EvoM and many other forums about cars being damaged while shipped. The common theme in those scenarios is they chose the cheapest shipping option.

Depending on how far you'll need to go to find the MR at the price you want, it might be best to fly there and then drive the car home. By the time you get home, you might have already gotten past the break in period...so it's a win-win situation.

Thanks for the reply, I suppose I should have said "lowest cost from a good company" because, yes, I'm not gonna use anyone sketchy. I could be buying from as far as Cali since SoCa has some of the best pricing in the country. I don't want to road trip it from there to chicago, that's too much. When I used the estimator from one of the companies recommended here on the boards it was around $900. I guess I'm just wondering if that is as good as it gets.

Which company did you use for the $900 quote and what was included in that quote? For a good shipping company with all the insurance and everything, you're probably going to be more around $1200-$1500. The extra $300-600 over the quote that you got is worth it for the piece of mind knowing your car will be taken care of by professionals.

So, you'll need to make sure you can get a deal where it would be cheaper than buying locally. Check out this thread for South Coast Mitsubishi.

They've got probably the best deals around. See if you can get a local dealer to match their prices (or go $1000 over the South Coast price and it's still cheaper than buying from them and having it shipped). That way you can avoid shipping and the hassle of buying a car you've never seen or sat in.

If a local dealer can't match, then South Coast might be a good option. I'm not endorsing them since I've heard a bunch of good and bad stories about them. They do quite a bit of shipping across country, so might be worth it to talk to them.

Good luck.

Check out Lewisville Mitsu in DFW. They are closer to you than Cali.
