Florida residents that are Military are elligible for a sweet deal. IF you buy a car out of state and tag it through the mail, you don't have to pay FL sales tax to register the car. The catch is that you are certifying that the car will not be driven on Florida roads for at least 6 months after purchase. Just call your tag office. I found this out a couple years ago when the DMV lady pointed it out to me and I was so pissed that I hadn't known about this in the past. I lost thousands for inadvertantly paying sales tax. So far I have registered two cars with no sales tax my Evo IX (bought in AZ) and my 04 STI (bough in KS).

Don Herring in Dallas has great deals (close in price to Cali dealers) if you are willing to travel.

Holy sh*t dude. You just saved me like $1300 in bullsh*t taxes.. I looked that up and verified it to be true on the Florida DMV website. That brings the price of my deal down to like 32.8K OTD for a PB X SSS/Navi/Aero/SprtAccPkg. Daym...there might not be any reason to wait now. You can barely get a used Black IX MR for that price...

lol...was that for me?

If you're getting a car that stickers at 40k for 33k, why would you even hesitate at all? That's a kickass deal that should be jumped on immediately.

I just went to Little Joe's the other day, they have a ton of X's on the lot. My friend works sales, he says they are really working with people on the price to get them moving (if anyone is interested)... Hall Mitsu only had like 2 when I went by today.

You didn't go to the side did you?

they have like 6 (1 MR). I talked to one of the guys there and asked how evo's were selling. He said they are moving 4 a month. Lies....because i've seen the same 4 cars there in the past month. And they marked up the MR around 12k to a lovely....51k.

Haha, yeah, I love when sales folks lie about how many Evo's they sell a month. I went to a local dealership that jacks up their prices, and I asked them why and they told me they were flying off the shelf! I guess thats why they've had the same 10 Evos sitting on their lot for the past 2 months... hmmmm...

Personally, I'd wait. I bought my 8 literally a few weeks before they released the 9 and in retrospect I should have waited to buy the 9. I want to see if they make it faster since it handles like it's on rails and clear up these tranny issues.

I doubt they are going to change anything for '09.

If you can get the car you want at the price you want....WHY NOT?? You could be driving it and enjoying it NOW, rather than later.

All this talk about not buying a first year car is baloney. EVERY CAR, whether first year or not may have a few small issues. I had 0 in my '03 Evo, and 0 in my '08 Evo so far. It's really NOT that big a deal. People just like to complain and find the smallest faults with everything.

Sure, did I want an VIII MR....yes! But it came out two years later. I had been owning and driving an Evo for two years already!! So in fact I do have something over them...I've been enjoying it for much longer than they were!!

All you guys that want to wait....go ahead....I am driving my '08 RIGHT NOW and loving every minute!

Just read in the new 'Car & Driver' that there are no changes planned in '09 to the Evo. No articles I've seen have ever mentioned a 6- spd in the future either, so I wouldn't hold your breath for that.

Not correct my friend. I used to work for Ford and every engineer there planned for problems in the first 6 months of a brand new model coming off the line into their schedules. We planned for more downtime to replace/scrap components or repair processes in those critical first 6 months, then any other time in the lifecycle of the product. You can rest easier though that I never witnessed any component that came up with a problem ever being reintroduced on the line....they were all thrown away at a very high cost.

Also, keep in mind that many of the components of cars these days are made in separate factories (no one engineer specs out every part), sometimes on separate continents, and often by multiple companies. Imagine how hard it is to get that right and insure that every piece will fit together perfectly the first time. Even cars that are manufactured in Japan/China/etc for several years and then the company decides to manufacture and sell the car in the US (a simple copy/paste exercise!) will have a higher number of issues in the first few months.

All things being equal, there is higher likelyhood of more things going wrong with the first few months of manufacturing then the last few months. Today, with the help of technology, most of the major items are resolved on the line during the test runs so it becomes less of an issue then it was in the 20th century. No manufactuer wants to sell a piece of s&*t car that is going to break down, with the possible exception of Chrysler.

Knowing all of this I'm still fine with buying a car in the first 6 months, as an early-adopter, but I go into it with a higher expectation that something can go wrong in those early days....no problems on my X yet though.

I've talked to many dealers around Chicago and the pricing doesn't vary much. $700ish below MSRP is what they are offering. I'm holding out for a bit longer to see what happens. I know that the MR is my next vehicle, but I can't stomach paying 40K+ for it, even though I think it's worth it. Rumor is there won't be any 09's that will drop the price, but I think time will still bring it down some more. I'm betting as summer fades and a few months of them sitting on lots will pull the price down. I wonder if the GSRs are already at their rock bottom price though?

I am hoping to get an 08 X next summer as I move to either Chicago or Texas with my gf for school. Do you guys think they will still have some GSR's on the lots?? Also she wants a regular lancer, will they give us a discount if I buy an X and she buys a Lancer at the same time?
