Has Mitsubishi Screwed X Owners?
Has Mitsubishi Screwed X Owners?
I was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the transmission issue that there have been so many threads about. To start off, I know there are ways of shifting to avoid the crunching and grinding but I really think that it's just delaying the inevitable, and it's unacceptable that we have to deal with this. We are starting to see more and more Xs getting their synchros and even entire trannies replaced after not very many miles of use, so I think it's safe to say that there is definite damage being done everytime it crunches during a shift.
Mitsu claimed that it was a fluid issue and said that they were investigating different options. Well, that was like 6 months ago and still no word. Mitsu corporate doesn't return messages and there is no new info, no TSBs at dealers other that the one telling dealers not to do anythng about it, no recalls, no nothing. I'd say it's safe to say that mitsu has no intentions of doing anything about this and has pretty much silently told us to kiss their ***, that it's not their problem. Anyone else feel a little raw about this?

I went to my dealer again the other day to get the updated flash again becuase my check engine light came on again and I also told them for the second time that I was not satisfied with the transmission. The first time I told them they did nothing and told me to drive it more since it was new and now at 7k miles nothing has changed. Well this time their head tech took the car for a drive and said that it was very notching, so then he went and drove a brand new one they had and he said it was the same. He then called Mitsu and started what he called a tech case, he said that after talking to someone at Mitsu they knew there was a problem and that now they would contact me when there is a fix. So I suggest to everyone to go to their dealer and start a tech case. This is unsatisfactory to me and embarrasing when the passengers in my car can feel the crunch through their seats. I love the car but the tranny is killing me.
I don't think they screwed evo x owners. Its just that not enough people with tranny problems are complaining to their local dealers.
Don't listen to their "its normal" excuse just take it back until something is done.

lots of 8 and 9 owners experienced trany grinding and what not. many changed fluids and most were satisfied. mitsu doesnt make the best tranys but a lot of it has to do with the drivers as well. the bad drivers can bring the worst out of the best tranys (hondas S2000 IMO)...excellent drivers can do well with crapy tranys.

This is my first car with a manual transmission, so I'm really not sure what this "crunch" is, because I have no other car to compare to, in terms of "feel."
But what I can say is, now at 16,000 miles, moving amongst the gears feels the same as when I got it with 5 miles on it. So I don't think this is a matter of breaking in..
But anyway, there's something obviously wrong with second gear on my car as it takes a little more effort to get it in...or is this normal?

I know what you feel.
I test drove the X GSR a couple of weeks ago and I felt that crunch while shifting also. I drove the car for about 5 miles, and every now and then, I felt the crunch. I feel the crunch at times on my IX MR also, but I found out that if I warm up the car for about 5 minutes before driving it becomes much better.....But the "crunch" does come back every once in a while. The crunch and grinding in the shifting is worst during the winter time. I heard Honda has some of the best felt shifting. I may not ever go with a stick shift from Mitsu ever again. This is my honest opinion.

Does the clutch line on the X still have the restrictor pill in it i assume it does.I wonder if its slowing the clutch operation so much that it doesnt have time disengage and people are just jamming it into gear.
