I was just browsing the evo x manual, and the side curtain airbags aren't actually behind the a-pillar. They are closer to your head. The warning is on the a-pillar, and it looks like if it deploys the topmost corner of the a-pillar may come out. My mazdaspeed 3 and civic si were the same way.

I think he said single pod in ABS plastic to begin with. Mark me for one of the first batches. I won't my gauges off the steering column and in a nice home on the a-pillar.
