The air bag topic has been beat to death...the factory a pillar has a strap that holds it in place so when they go off it breaks away towards the windshield...not your face. Any a pillar setup like this I would think should be fine. I'm in the midst of getting a custom a pillar fabbed up onto the stock one so I retain the abs strap and will have my gauges. No one is making a pillars for the X at this time to my knowledge and I don't even know of anyone that is considering it either at this time. I got quoted about $200-250 to fiberglass a custom one up...although it is pricey...I'll probably pony up the funds next week unless I can get confirmation from a major shop like Autometer that one is in fact in the works.

With regards to chopping one...the greddy single universal fit pillar mounts look like a viable option if you modded them a little bit and attached to the stock pillar and then smoothed and painted...I've been considering this as well.

Ive been bugging various vendors about making the A Pillar.

On a side note, I was called to Mitsubishi, apparently the guy who bought my 4g Eclispe wrote it off. It has side curtain airbags, they were deployed, and guess what no gauges everywhere!

Glad some folks understand how it works. +1. I'd really like to see pillar gauge mounts beccause I Don't want to fool with trying to find a place to put gauges that isn't ridiculous or unattractive.

SilverEvoX and I have talked about this quite a bit. I think he's done a pretty impressive amount of research and thinking about this.

I would love a set, but I would want the gauges as close to the glass as possible, just in case of an airbag deploy if one becomes loose it won't be at eye level, but more than likely will end up in the dash or windshield. (holy run on sentence batman, but it's too early to fix it).

I agree with keeping them at eye level and out of the way (i.e. not covering half the speedometer or on top of the dash). Pillar gauges seem to be the cleanest look IMO. I'd buy one as soon as they're released.
