High RPM holds after Revving

I noticed this when the car was stock testing out the 2 step stutter launch at 5500 rpm and then aborting it. Since our car is drive by wire, even when you let off the accelerator pedal, the RPM's hang there for a good 10-15 seconds which seems excessive. I had my 2 step moved up to 6000 RPM and it's even more noticeable, let alone if a law enforcement officer happens to wander by with my aftermarlet exhaust at full tilt!

It may be good for avoiding a stall after high RPM and full braking when the car isn't in gear, but for revving the engine it seems almost uncontrollable. You can rev to 3k or 4k and it will pretty much drop right away, but rev to 5k+ and it wants to hang there forever as if the throttle was stuck.

Anyone have solutions to make this more controllable?

This is an ecu tuning issue. Mitsu supposedly did this on purpose for emissions to prevent the rich condition that can occur when the rpms drop fast. I don't know if that's true or not, but I've noticed this same issue except that mine gets stuck even lower than that. It will rev hang, as I like to call it, even when I'm just engaging the clutch and then press it back in, and this is only at like 2500 rpms. It probably sounds like I'm burning my clutch to those around me but I'm not even touching the gas and the clutch is in! Sometimes it doesn't do it though, so it's kind of inconsistent.

I've talked to a few diferent tuners and there's no way to adjust it in the ecu. My guess is that ecutek hasn't looked for where this info is stored or doesn't want to mess with it. Shiv at vishnu nticed this issue a long time ago but didn't want to mess with it for liability purposes. Messing with the throttle programming could result in a lawsuit if something happened to cause a crash while on the road. I seriously doubt that that would ever happen, but that's the reasoning behind it. Anyway, the next time you revyour car up and it won't come down, just let the clutch out to the engagement point for a sec and it will drop it back down.

and here i thought something was wrong with my car when that happened to me a couple of weeks ago. had to do what STi2EvoX said, let off the clutch a bit and it went down to idle.

Hmmm, I'll try a few things like clutch out, double pump clutch, blip throttle etc to see what consistantly can bring it back down. I guess it was good to confirm that everyone has the same thing going on, LOL.

i was forced to burn my clutch to bring my revs down. i was showing my two step at a light to a buddy and it turned green and the revs just hung so i slipped the clutch to drop the revs to go without getting honked at.

i feel bad about it. and now i have a CEL on for over 24 hours. probably unrelated.

My GSR does this as well. But my Speed 3 did it as well.

Unless you let the clutch out too slowly it shouldn't have burned up. If that ever happens then just let the clutch out a bit faster at first until it starts to really grab and then continue the take up a a normal pace.

I have just got my PB EvoX yesterday, and I was wondering about this same thing. I don't rev over 3K, just in 1st gear, 2nd gear, and the rev hang is noticeable. Doesn't happen with all my previous car (from civic to 300zx TT)... so I was just going through the forum for any confirmation..

Phew... I'm soo relieved that it's not a problem.

Thanks for the posts guys..
