revving question

i was just wondering, is an engine bad when it can't even reach the redline?? i noticed this on my mom's dodge caravan..yes. a caravan i would rev it, and it struggles at 5400-5500, so it keeps revving around 5000-5400 at that point..the specified redline is 6000rpm so i was just wondering if the engine's bad or if the fuel cut-off was below redline.

Chances are the ECU just wants it to shift before then and the torque curve is weak around there causing it to crap and shift. Are we talking driving or have you tried revving it in neutral?

hey, thanks for contributing positively!

bob-
has it always done this? it may be just a safety feature?

sidenote: ******* tired of people replying in a completely destructive manner and then getting mad when people become offended with their comments. let's try and stay positive and constructive. there's a difference between constructive criticism (something that will result in a gain of knowledge) and flat out bad mouthing. this may be a little extreme in this case but as a general rule on this site i see it way too often.

i don't mean anything harsh insomniac_evo, you just reminded me of how disconcerting it has been reading some of the posts on here. no hard feelings, eh?

but anyways, cup, im not really sure. ever since i got my license May of 2002, it's been like this, engine struggling when it's around 5400rpm. so im not really sure if it's always been like this
