Backfire at redline???

My evo has hks 272 cams with beehive springs and titanium retainers. Last night I was running her hard and I accidentally revved it almost to 8k when the car backfired. The guy behind me said I shot a flame when it happened. I was just wondering if this could have caused any damage. I didn't get a CEL and there was no knock when I drove it earlier. No strange or different noises, and no loss of power. Thoughts?

It's just excess unburnt fuel being ignited by the oxygen as it exists the hot exhaust pipe. Nothing to worry about.
