Story of bolt ons

Its been interesting reading about what everyone goes through as they do bolt ons, hearing whats dumb or you get flamed for doing it.

Here is my small story for all to read!

First add: HKS drop in- added some sound a tiny power change

Second add: Greddy boost controller great purchase helped alot on top

I think yes we are going somewhere so I add

Third add: FMIC and upper pipe- noticed a difference again

This is going great so whats next

Fourth add: DP and TP along with a AF guage- car fell flat on face!

Baseline on a Mustang Dyno - 265awhp(stock) after all mods Dynoed 2 more times
because i freaked out. 2 different days 6 runs total for a grand total of 271awhp?

Had a gut feeling and slapped on an AMS intake went back to the Dyno 302awhp

So everyone can get different results, we switched back to stock airbox with drop in and #s went back down to 270.

Every situation is different.

Best of luck to all!!!!!!!!!

It's funny. When I was building my DSM the guy making the exhaust shipped it 4 months after he said he would. As a result I had a 92 laser with a FMIC and 2.5" piping. Full intake, fuel system, garret .50 trim and a stock exhaust. I don't know the actual numbers but the difference in that car when the exhaust got put on, as far as the butt dyno goes, had to be close to 100awhp.

Apparently he didn't. He seems to be one of those guys who's getting all the mods first and tuning last.

+1 ^ just make sure to tune right after you put the mods on, putting mods on a car and not tuning it is like building a machine and not optimizing its performance. Maybe thats just the engineer in me tho

^^ I thought that's how it's done anyways. You'd be wasting money getting a tune after each part you add....

Yeah but that makes sense. You don't want to pay for a tune before mods. The you will have to get tuned again after. You want to be tuned with mods. The thing is the intake leans out the car but once the car is tuned will have little to no gain.
