3,000 or 5,000 miles oil changes?
The Evo X's manual says 5,000 miles and then I read the Mitsubishi changed it to 3,000 miles.
What mileage is everyone changing their oil in their Evo x at? Every 3,000 or 5,000 miles?

I'm certainly no oil expert, but I was under the impression synthetic oil is used to extend the mileage intervals of oil changes? I changed mine at 5k and I intend to change it for a second time at 10k.

If using full synthetic I don't see why 5k miles is a problem...You can go longer if you wanted to, i've heard of some people(not evo owners) that would change the filter every 5k miles but the oil every 10k miles.
Unless you are driving like you stole it everytime your in the car 5k should be fine.

5k miles is fine even if you do beat the hell out of your car everyday. You can run Mobil 1 to 10k+ miles and still won't see a problem. There is also no reason to change your factory fill oil until 5k miles. I suppose its your choice if you want to believe me (nothing to gain) or your dealerships (they'd love the double the frequency their customers are paying them $80 per change). If you want some added piece of mind get your oil tested by Blackstone.

Although synthetics don't break down as quickly, they still get dirty. I think anywhere up to 5000mi would be fine, but personally I like to get it out of there around 3000mi. Mobil1 syn is cheap.

Supposedly, that was one of the marketing ploys when synthetic oils first came out a number of years ago. .............."sure they cost more but you don't have to change them every 3000 miles since they don't break down as quickly!" Even Mercedes Benz recommends changing their $500,000 SLR roadster every 7500 miles!!! Tell me then....... why pay the extra $$$ on synthetic if you're going to change every 3Kmiles........??? What's the benefits? Without a doubt..... the dealerships just trying to make more money. Go ahead...... throw your money away if you like and it makes you feel better!

For my "normal" cars I use Mobil1 and will run them 10-12k miles before changes and the oil looks just fine.
For the Evo that I drive reall (no REALLY) hard? I'll do a bit more preventative maintenance.
I think of it just as part of the program... like buying good tires. Put it in the budget and don't sweat it. If you're going to sweat $900 of tires every year and $60 oil changes every 3-5 months then you are driving the wrong type of car and should go get an Altima.

I've had many cars over the years, turbo and naturally-aspirated, and came up with a schedule of changing the oil every 5K for n/a, but every 3K for turbos. Although for my Boxster, Porsche recommended Mobil 1 every 15K, so I followed what the factory said.
