How much carbon fiber is too much?

I love carbon fiber as much as the next guy, but how much is too much? I can understand the need to over do it for shows, but what about the daily driver? Just wondering cause I'm looking for a body kit and it will be for the most part, carbon fiber. Just not sure if I want to do other carbon fiber parts as I have a fear of the car looking too tacky.

Or can you never have too much carbon fiber?

Thoughts...

It's really all in how you feel it looks. It's your car, you should be able to do with it what you want. If you feel there's too much, take some off, if you feel it's not enough, add some more. Don't let some guy sitting on the other end of your internet connection tell you how to make/mod/style/etc your vehicle. I understand you're asking cause you want a general consensus, but from reading these forums (since before I was a member) there's usually no general consensus to be had hehe... You'll get 1001 different answers, and you'll eventually pick the one that sounds the best to you anyways...

Edit: After re-reading what I wrote, I think I might have come off kinda harsh... apologize about that, I am slightly jaded. But I do feel that you're essentially the one one who has to make the decision for yourself. It's sort of like asking the community which color you should get your evo in, some will say rr, some pb, some ww, others blue, so, you're still going to be in the same position you are now, just with a lot of other peoples opinions who, to you, shouldn't really matter

As a side note, I personally like Carbon trim, I dunno if I'd go full aero kit, that's just me, but a few trim pieces, also the hood/bonnet, maybe trunk, and then some interior accents... I personally won't go more than that.

What color is your X? that's also a pretty big factor in picking CF pieces...

One part that will def improve the X & not make it tacky whatsoever, is getting actual CF for the 4-point harness guides on the Recaros. Don't know if anyone makes any, but that would be a major improvement in my book! But, I agree w/ DigitaLSD on that it's your choice & that the hood would look good in CF, also the roof, & trunk... I like the straight down-the-middle look.

CF body panels should be painted. Race cars get the paint. The more expensive Corvettes (zo6, Zr1) with the widebody kit have CF fenders I believe (painted).

I think unpainted CF hoods and such are just ostentatious presentation to show that you dropped big $ on your ride. To me, it's about the weight and would prefer one not be able to tell the difference with a proper paint match.

lastly, I think it is a damn shame to ditch a pretty lightweight aluminum hood on STI's and evos.

^^^ yes and no, what if you like the look of carbon fiber? why paint it if you like the looks? I think it depends on the color of your car, white can almost be drenched in carbon but black doesn't flow as nice imo.

in my personal opinion I like little carbon fiber pieces here and there, but if it is a legitament body parts such as a hood, trunk, doors... I feel that it needs to be painted or else it looks dumb, because the only reason I would buy it in the first place would be to safe weight not to look like a civic.

90% of the tracks cars that I work on that have carbon fiber are painted.

But to each their own. If it is for show then that is a different deal sometimes. But cars still look cleaner with a bit of carbon.

It all all boils down to preference. To me, CF accents are the way to go (e.g. splitters, diffusers, GT mirrors). Whole body panels seem to be excessive with the CF look and would rather see it painted. Problem with painting CF is you need a real good painter to do it, I hate seeing painted CF but can still see outline of the weave.

It starts getting too much when you start adding weight with it.

put as much as you want on the car as long as it's functional. When it becomes for show only IMO it's excessive and un needed.

Carbon fiber is usually used to increase strength and reduce weight. Once you get away from those ideas, it's IMO a waste. Carbon fiber dash overlays, door sils, etc....all pieces that go on top of what you already have and are for looks only.....take away from the car IMO.

Keep it functional. Hey, look at the HKS Evo 8. It's exterior is all carbon fiber....and one of the fastest cars out there.
