WW MR or GG GSR?
It actually works for someone that plans to keep the car stock. It s a perfect deal if you don't modthe car but realisticly how many people actually keep their cars stock(engine wise)?
Ask yourself the question: are you going to keep your car stock or slightly modded(exhaust,MBC,flash) or are you going to go hardcore?, I think the MR twin clutch should hold fine.

i dont think the problem is handle 400 whp with the SSt . The problem is how long?
On road course will be a real abuse for them, if you run longer then couple minutes.
every video i did see already the SSt bailed out due heating. And remember that is a stock level aprox 220 230 whp and wtq.
Even the older version MR trannys have a heating plague. That is why the road racers changing them to back to the 5 speed.
Now the problem is for the racers is not just the reliability , the cost also...
Since NO ONE allowed to touch that tranny, i guess not too many people have experience with them to fix it at a local garage. And to replace them, that is a price for a dog box tranny.
Even if you have all the parts and knowledge later , still the 5 speed will be a cheaper tranny to run it on track. Sound weird? Maybe but is true. There is a fine balance between cost and performance in racing...
You should pay attention it when you buy something.
So as far as my opinion goes, Get the MR if you want to stay close to the stock level, and you are not a mild or the hard core racer.
Occasionally track visit should n't be a problem with the MR.
But dont think the SST will make wonders.
And i think as a DD and a mildly tuned Evo , the MR is the best.
For other purposes, the GSr wins hands down. Because cost and reilability at higher whp and wtq + serviceability.

Well yes some were over heating. And some GSR's were overheating as well on the radiators. Heating problems whether it be transmission cooler or Radiator can be overcome with aftermarket parts.
This is a first year model production car. I say give it a chance. Eventually I see everybody migrating to a DCT in the future for most higher end upper performance cars.

Since both car have a same radiator as far as i know.
Nobody has reported an MR overheating on the radiator probably because there are far less MR's out there and nobody has tracked them as hard. Doesn't mean they won't overheat on the radiator as well. Or perhaps the transmission overheated before the water temps got too high and they got off the track before their radiators overheated. I never said the water radiators were different, you made that assumption. just a few people reported overheating water temps on the GSRs and a few people reported overheating the transmissions on the MRs.
My main point was and still is "Overheating problems can be cured" whether it is a transmission cooler or radiator.

are you sure that is a X GSR? I cant find anything. I know we got issues with the 8-9 , because the headers and turbo set ups being close to them.
But i cant find the X related issues yet. Can you help me?

The MR tranny is a paddle ho that means look at the speedo then shift make sure your in the right gear and shift or just letting the sst shift for you is a scary feeling if you like taking it to the limit. Your bound to wreck if you drive like a manic in a MR the GSR is more in your control IMO. btw I used to own a gutted VIII with JIC coils and the 5 spd has saved my life more than once.
It is remarkable how people keeps using the word: "being in control with a manual transmission". Can you elaborate more on that?
Ferrari, Porsche, VW, Buggati, Mitsubishi, BMW,Nissan and a whole lot more of car makers make this type of transmission and I don't see any correlation to your statements. What is the type of "control" that you have on the manual that you don't have on the twin clutch?, in my opinion is just a different driving style, for all the purposes the twin clutch trans drive very efficiently.

You want a light weight track car get yourself an EVO VIII RS. Since the EVO X dosn't have an RS varient, if you want an EVO X you may as well step up and get an MR.

The MR's came out later, and there are far less of them so it will take longer to get caught up. I'll NEVER REGRET I got an EVO. Yes, the MR is still an EVO even though it does not have a 5 speed manual. Its still beautiful and my DD. If I'm sitting in bumper to bumper traffic I damn sure won't regret it.
The SST handles 50ft lbs of torque less than the 5 speed. Yes the 5 speed is rated at 400 and the SST at 346 according to manufacture specs. IF you want to be exact, the SST can handle 54 ft lbs of torque less according to manufacture specs. Only weak point I see at this point in the SST is the clutch packs. Nobody I know of has stepped up to test the limits because of the 8 grand cost to replace the SST after the clutches fry to see how much they will take. With no aftermarket parts....it would get expensive quick. And how do you know there will never be an upgrade for those clutch packs to make MR owners regret? Give them time, who knows what will happen. I'm proud of my EVO. It is my first and I love it. Regret is not a word I would use.

if that is true for the X 5 speed tranny.
then the X tranny will be a weakest evo transmission ever made.
But i think you talking about the what the tranny can hold with the stock cluch. Not a tranny itself.
Wich is an easy Fix for the 5 speed .
