In russia, car drive you!

I've pushed my car(20min of hard track time) and never was told to slow down except by the psg.

I'd wonder if the lube they use in the SST is trash... Maybe talk to The Doc about what you can put in there to help.

the video also says to service the vehicle to determine what caused the overheating. so perhaps it isn't normal when letting the car rip.

No disrespect to The Doc, but I don't know how good an idea it is to start changing fluids in a tranny with a wet clutch set, especially when it's a touchy transmission as it is AND all the clutch engagement calibration has been done with the stock fluid in there!

+1

I wouldn't mess with the fluid. Lots of research and testing went into the whole gear box. It isn't a simple auto-box or manual transmission.

Thats better than possibly doing permanent damage to the car without warning.

for $35k+, I'm hoping hard driving on the street isnt damaging the car like that....there are guys that are tearing the GSR apart at a track, and its holding its own....I'm not so sure the "upgraded" MR and a weak clutch will spell anything good for owners or mitsu-but I agree-better to know when its time to rest.

Sounds like the SST might benefit from a larger oil cooler.

If you ever install a trans oil temp gauge on a manual transmission, you'd be amazed. They can get quite hot from just going 20 mph faster or any aero, load related, or towing work it has to push through..luckily most of us just drive our stick shifts without having to actually think about that stuff and never know how hot it gets.

i dunno... you got to wonder how far you have to go to activate that particular response. I mean, even guys that track their cars take a cool down lap and make sure to let the car rejuvenate instead of beating on it incessantly. I am not saying that the OP drove his car carelessly. I am just saying maybe it comes up when you are driving a bit too aggressively for the car's design. The car was made for the track, but not made to be abused. Maybe this is a good thing.

WTF? I drove my car for at least 40 mins HARD in S-Sport on gravel and never got that warning. It wasn't particularly cold, but I guess it probably wasn't that hot either. Did you hit the brake and gas it at the same time? If you do that it will tell you to "slow down". I couldn't launch b4 because the "slow down" sign came up...but that's cause I wasn't holding the brake firm enough.

SST temp warning. The stock transmission oil cooler does not have a fan, so hard driving on winding roads at moderate to low speeds will heat up the transmission oil worse than high speed running would... we need a fan on that cooler.

It is from the SST transmission. It has happen to me. The light never stayed on but just flashed a couple times.
1) If you do not put the car in s-sport mode and try to launch the car, the car will rev up and flash "Slow Down"

2) After repeated launches and hard driving, the launch control will just turn off and will not let you launch any more to prevent damage. If you try to launch again the car will rev up and flash "slow down". You will go no where.

The best way to cool it down is go for a car wash!

I think the SST need a new bigger oil cooler, or a high performance fan of some sort and some better fluids to keep the temps down.

Vendors we NEED your help!

That is the exact display that I got. A ring with a vertical line and the words slow down under it. It would come on, cut power, you would back off for a second and then resume again and the power would be back. Happened several times in a row under frequent high rpm shifting in both sport and Ssport mode. Drove at moderate rpms and it did not come back. Finished long spirited drive short shifting at 5,500 rpm's and it never came back. As for the recommendation of pulling over, are they serious! lol

It is good to know that the problem is isolated to the transmission. Now how do we fix it? The tranny is sealed, but can you still add an oil cooler to the system and fill extra fluid? Will a fan be sufficient to cool down things and will it fit? We need some solutions.
