Video: Limp mode caught on tape!

If anyone wanted to see/hear wanted limp mode does and sounds like, here is a quick one of my X hitting it on the dyno, you have to listen closely but you will get the point.

What during that run caused it to go into limp mode?

Ahhhhh yes the infamous limp mode. I had this happen to me when I had my Saturn Redline, quite a few times.

Wow, we've never actually seen or heard that happen. That's crazy.

The ZChip is immune to limp mode in a all of our testing in the last few months.

Basically he was rolling into the throttle in third gear, so it was part throttle and saw big boost and didn't like it, so it sends the car into limp mode... a bad situation when you live in San Diego and there is nothing but hills to climb and you can't get into boost with partial throttle or it will do this to you, on a hill! Happens to me everytime, so I have to either get in the slow lane and just slow until I hit the peak, or full throttle it! Gets really old after a while.

Thats great, I really hope this proves well in the community, my buddy is on the list so I will definitely keep my eye on your product.

Honestly though, please for the sake of your customers and your business, do some serious testing to see if you can replicate this with your Z chip, i would hate for you to have angry customers coming back at you with this problem, and if you cant, more power to you!

Did mitsu test the car in conditions like that to make sure that it can be drivin? I find stories like this very bothersome in a $35K car...

All in the name of fuel economy! The car stays in open loop mode, trying to maintain 14.7:1 A/F ratio at part throttle... this is NOT good in a turbo engine.

They realized this isn't good and to prevent engine damage, the car goes into "limp" mode. What a load of horse $@%t!!!

I know with the subaru's you could manipulate the open loop / closed loop switch point to get ride of this type of problem with the accessport. I would assume the same kind of manipulation can be done with the ECUtech flash for the EVO's.

This has nothing to do with Mitsubishi. You, and others need to understand the conditions, and I apologize for not making them clear.

This particular evo has several modifications, one of which is a Manual Boost Controller, which is the source of these issues. The MBC only knows what you set it to, in this case 24 psi, so when you partial throttle, the MBC will not regulate boost like the stock boost controller, and will attempt to get you up to 24 psi everytime, the computer sees that the car is not doing what the computer is telling it to do, and sends it into limp mode, to protect the car.
