Or 50k+ on a 335i convertible and having the top totally fall apart/collapse while you were closing it, requiring an entire new top assembly to be shipped in from Germany -- and it being impossible to get on right (because there's a special jig at the factory to get it in the right place, and installing by hand doesn't work).

While $35k is a lot of money, IMO, the major things we're seeing (too rich, seats separating are the only things that are widespread), are very minor compared to the issues I have seen and had in other cars.

The gas pedal and oil leak seem fairly isolated. The toe issue is something you see across the board from all manufacturers (anyone owned a G35 Coupe or 350z?).

If you like the car and want to afford it, then go for it!
Or the 2006 3 series (the year BMW released its current generation 3 series), which had trouble starting up..

Well, as another poster stated: HONDA CIVIC!

18,800 miles and 30-32lbs of boost and we have had zero issues , perfect compression and no oil leaks .

My thoughts exactly.

I have 3200mi on the ODO and the only problem I've had is the 1-2, 2-3 notchiness which I'm hoping to cure with some AMSOIL MTG in the next few days. Other than that I've had NO idle issues, NO issues with the harness channels/staples in the Recaros popping off, and NO oil leaks (knock on wood).

Honestly, half the people who overlook the problems are X owners who are trying to justify their huge purchase. It offends them that there are things wrong with the car, so they will say it's ok cars are supposed to be like this.
They are people who, while hearing of the problems, still wanted to own this car, and did not want to wait (for an XI or something). So of course they will justify why they should own the car.
For me, the problems were unacceptable. I'll just wait for the XI at least...

At the same time, the problems are limited in a nationwide perspective. Just not compared to honda or toyota.. or subaru.. or nissan... etc.

I've experienced none of the problems you have listed except I could possibly see one of the staples from the recaro seats getting pulled out in the future. easily fixed- you would not even have to take it to a dealer.

Or perhaps the majority of us aren't having any problems with our cars.

Majority don't.
Better safe than sorry, for me
I'm very glad for the people who aren't having any problems with their X.
I'm saying, I'd rather wait that risk it in his situation

Wait for what? People to stop complaining on the Internet? In that case, you better never buy a new car and sell the one you already have.

Wait until the car's been on the market for a little. I.e., like how they had the factory reflash after a few months. Little things like that to get the bugs out of the system after the product has seen experience on the market and in the real world.
Kind of like windows vista.

Just saying, think about this. The 08 wrx failed, with everyone, and that recoiled through the community and sales. They had to change the product because of competition and to increase sales.

But seems to me Mitsu made sure 97% of the cars instead of 99% of the cars were in quality condition, and thought 'they'll buy/accept our cars anyway, it's an evo. what are they gonna buy, the sti?'

And some people do. But I got rid of mine. Maybe I'm a little bitter, but I'm hoping for better luck next time.
What if no one bought the evo? Everyone turned their sales to the sti or finding a used 8/9?
I bet the XI would have came out much quicker. And with many revisions.

Or maybe not be released at all??

And what situation is this we are in?? If wheels were falling off we'd have something to talk about.

I have an '08 Evo. I had the seat problem with the staple showing. I had it fixed under warranty. Excuse me for not turning my car back in because of all these unacceptable issues. Give me a break....

I had an '03 Evo. Also bought within a few months of being released. First time on the market. 5 years, 78,000 miles later, 20,000 miles with meth injection, no issues.

This is the exact problem with the internet. People making a mountain out of a molehill. Buy the car. Enjoy it. Best performance for the $$ anywhere. And don't complain about stupid ****. Are any of these "issues" going to cause me from having a blast everytime I drive it? NO!!!

You keep waiting...I'll keep driving!!!

Just to give you a perspective from my point of view...... I sold my '05 Dodge Viper to purchase the EvoX. I still own a '07 Supercharged Lotus Elise. From a bang for you buck point of view...... this car is a blast to drive. Obviously the Viper was faster and had tons of torque.... but it wasn't comfortable enough (atleast for me) to be an everyday driver. And the distance I drive to work....... cost me over $100 dollars a week (M-F) to drive. From the Lotus aspect....... the car is lightening fast and has the low end grunt to boot. In my honest opinion...... and I've driven many different sports cars........... non handle better than my Lotus. But again.....every day driveability is much better than the Viper.....gets great gas mileage (better than the EvoX) and can be an everyday driver just no room for anything larger than a gym bag. Now the EvoX...... Blast to drive, pretty good gas mileage, handling is great, very fast (I had the after-market RRE Tune ), tons of room for sh*t and seats 4 comfortably. My "only" gripe.....and it isn't much of one because it is what it is (and I did have the entire interior upolstered in two-tone leather ) . But the interior is very cheaply made..... so much so.... that even much cheaper cars have better interiors.

The only problem that I had with mine was the seat fabric was ripping off from the socket area. This seems to be a common theme with all generations of Evo's. If you can look pass that it's a great car to beat around on the road.
