weird thing happen to my MR took 3 mins for the car to shut off

Last night I came home and parked my car in my garage. After I shut off my car, I expected to shut off in abt 1 second or so. But it did not. The engine was making loud noises and the fan was still on. It kept going for about 3 mins and then turned itself off. Anyone else has this problem?

Btw my MRs at 5k miles and periodic inspection light is on. I changed oil at 2.5k

thanks

It does this to cool off the car/turbo if it's still hot. Most modern cars with electric fans will do this.

You can reset the inspection light. Just search on here how to do it.

I got the impression from your post that the engine was RUNNING for 3 min after key off... was it just the fan running, or the engine?

If it's just the fan that is still on your safe. If it was the engine it's another issue. Maybe your car is haunted >.>

Yeah, it's just to help cool everything off. I'd be more worried if it didn't do it.

Did you check that the engine was actually running? Just check to see if the rpms are at zero or if exhaust gas is being produced - simple. I really can't imagine the engine was running for 3 mins.

Did you reset the counter when you changed the oil?

I'm pretty sure the starter of the thread is referring to the fan being on after turning the car off.

Happens to my X and GTI all the time, especially after parking at work. The parking lot's pretty hot and getting up to my designated parking spot on the 8th floor is hard on the cars.

Read your owner's manual. It explains that the fans may stay on after the car shuts off. In fact, the fans may kick on at any time while the car is off.

A friend of mine got the top of his finger cutoff by a automatic fan in his 89' Plymouth Laser.. Lesson learned, disconnect battery!
