Oil Change Required After Break-In?

I just recently purchased an 08 evo x gsr and it's my first turbo charged car. The salesman told me that its recommended to change the oil and oil filter after break-in (ie. 800-1000 miles) to flush out any dirt or contaminants during break-in. that this will help the reliability of the turbo in the long run. do any of you agree to this or is he just trying to make more money out of me?

It's not required. But, could only help. Although, some see it as a little bit of overkill.

If it will make you happier, spend the $30 on the oil and the filter and do a quick change in your garage. I did this back when I had my IX and found several metal particles in the fluid.

I did an oil change at like 1200 miles then every 3k after that.

But I don't just drive around town...

recommended is the right word for it.

do the oil change your self or somewhere cheaper (that will put in the right oil) if you think he's tryin to make money off you.

you're most likely fine not doing it, but it definatly "doesnt hurt".

For break in, really, change the oil ASAP because you will have tons of crap in there. 100 miles is the best. After that, once at 1000, and then regular intervals thereafter.

The first 100 miles or so is by far the worst.

I did mine right after the so-called "500 mile break-in". I've heard enough good things about royal purple oil that I've decided that's all I'm going to run in this car. I'll be changing it every 3K. I won't go on a monthly basis, I barely drive my car. Bought it the second week of April and I'm still under 3K on it.

i've heard that it runs a bit thin compared to other oil, good for NA but not good for turbo. im running it on my dad's si and i have no problems. so i would do some research first

I don't see how it could. Viscosity is viscosity.
