break-in procedure?

i've never owned a turbocharged vehicle only v6s and v8s and the occasional 4 banger is there any difference from regular break-in procedures... anything special i have to do? i just got a new black 06 evo 9 and was wondering what's the best way to treat her... also a friend of mine who has a turboed talon says to let her run idle after driving her for 1 minute is this right?

Damn, I guess they stopped showing the mandatory video that explains this. I know some people in the past had never seen it, but I figured they'd be showing it to everyone with the IX just being released.

Do a quick search for your exact topic, and you will find tons of info. Then, search for "turbo timer" to answer your 2nd question.

What about reading the owners manual. That would be a great way to start!

From page 3-2 of your 2005 owner's manual:

"For future performance and economy of your vehicle, we recommend that you carry out the following precautions.

● Avoid revving the engine. Do not exceed 5,000 rpm for the first 600 miles (1,000 km).
● Avoid rough driving such as fast starts, prolonged high-speed driving and rough shifting for the first 300 miles (500 km).
● Avoid sudden braking for the first 300 miles (500 km).
● The standard-equipment tires use a high-grip compound. Thus drive with extra care for the first 200 miles (300 km).
● Do not overload the vehicle. Observe the seating capacity (See "Cargo loads precautions" on page 4-11).
● Do not use this vehicle for trailer towing.

As the owners manual says let it idle untill the coolant temp gauge starts to move then you can start driving. Dont floor it or go above 5k rpm for the first 600 miles. Get a turbo timer but for now let it idle after you are done driving for about a min. After broken in its a good idea to let the coolant temp gauge move before driving. If you just got done beating on it and park let it idle for 1 1/2-2 min to let the turbo cool down.
