Im at about 1600 miles on my Evo8 and im wondering when I shoudl change my oil. I have heard many people tell me NOW is a good time, and the dealership told me to wait till 5k like the manual suggests due to the special lubricants in the break-in oil ...what do you guys suggest?

yep.changed mind at 1500,then 3000.when i hit 5000 i'll change it also.

 

I did my first change at 3000 miles and than every 4000. Mine does not use any oil at all.

 

Special lubricants Dealerships are retarted. Change it. Since I put very few miles on mine, i change it every 3 months, regardless of miles. I have 4200 miles now and changed the oil 3 times. I also changed the tranny and diffs which the manual states at 15,000. I even rotate tires every 3,000 miles like clockwork. I believe in over maintenance even if some feel it's a waste of $$.

 

With full synth oil every 3,000 to 4,000 miles is recommended. If you drive hard, or are in rough climates, then more often is fine. Mobil 1, or any good full synth oil is fine.

 

i did my first oil change at 2000, then another at 5500... next i'll do around 9000

 

I will be doing oil samples every 2,500 miles on my next batch of oil in the car, and I will let everyone know the results and let this answere the question of how often to change the oil. I am using the stock weight mobil 1 oil and a mobil 1 oil filter.
