I wonder , if they will remove some of the thicker metal from the floor and the body and replace it with lighter ones...

You folks at AMS had better be careful with this car or else Mitsubishi is going to void the warranty.

To achieve, you removed those pieces that could be substituted by the TT race required roll cage the results of which still yeilded a net loss of weight. Is this correct?

For the class we are competing in (Unlimited AWD) you are required to have a roll cage. Adding a roll cage adds weight to the car. To offset this weight, we remove all of the unneeded brackets and some of the structure that lends chassis rigidity and impact strength. The cage is designed to give back that strength and rigidity and then some.

To give you an idea, the cage we put in the car is the same cage you would put in a convertible to protect a driver in the event of a rollover. Any structure of the car that is outside of the cage is icing on the cake. Removing some of the material that "bettered" the side impact rating is not a big deal. The actual chassis of the Evo X is WAY more reinforced than the 8/9. I would bet that even with the metal I removed from the B pillar, that it is stronger than an unmodified 8/9 B pillar.

Ultimately, our hope is that the weight of the bare chassis with the cage will be equal to or less than the weight of the bare chassis before I started removing metal.

Where can this be done?

Awesome! Car looks great!
Just out of curiosity, how do you measure how stiff a car's chassis is?

lol.....I'm pretty sure this WAS a Mitsu. owned car. Great to see it being put to good use instead of the inside of a crusher.
Great job guys!

Nice to see someone doing it right!

Ralliart FIA Holoigation N-5718 02/02, which starts on page 33 of the following PDF lists the approved non-structural items that can be removed from a EVO X per the FIA rules.

http://www.ralliart.co.jp/GRN/homolo...ancerEvo10.pdf

All of the listed items add up to about 24 kg's, which is about 53 pounds worth of brackets etc.

From the looks of it you've gone waaaay beyond that!
