How do I bring this up to the dealer? Obviously they're response to anything I mention about the brakes will be "you drove too hard."
Ya if you are looking for the dealer to replace your break pads good luck lol. Pretty sure you are out of luck and will have to buy them your self.

your problem with the squeeky brakes and how even wen ur not pressing the brakes could possibly be that your rotors are warped this can happen from high speed stoping and the rotors getting too hot.
Glad to hear the X holding up pretty well. I just got rid of mine at 20500 (mid feb purchase). The squeeks and rattles and all the black plastic finally wore me down to trade out of it (I put 80-100 miles a day on the car-lots of seat time). Seats were great, I never ran into the whole staple thing-radio worked well-too many mods to note how the factory set up was. Heres to another 20k on your X!
i think that alert your talking about is the same thing i went through, it ended up being the brake fluid was low, its a sensor in the res tank that gose off evry time ther is forward mometum it pulls the low fluid awy from the sensor giveing u the light.
Nice job on ur milege.
Also just my .02
The way these brakes are designed makes the pads rest against the rotors when there worn. When you replace them you will see the pad will be tapered and have a decent amount of meat on one side.
This is how it always was on my VIII and once the pads were replaced no more squeaking or rubbing sound. Happened on my friends STi as well since they all use the same system.
So needless to say, should have no worries besides replacing the pads.

hey 628
if you look on page 3-194 of the manual it says that its caused by brake fluid moving around during take offs or spirited driving (if it turns on and turns off) its only if it stays on that theres a big problem.
which makes sense why it comes on when you start to take off.
top off the fluid. im gonna guess its gonna make the brakes feel good again too. im gonna check my fluid this weekend, i got the light twice today.

How can the factory original tires last 20K+ miles, I will be lucky to get 10K from them? I don't do very much hard breaking or hard acceleration, only occasionally drive fast in the twisties. for 5 minutes or so.
I have 12k miles and my stock tires look like they have another 10k miles in them. I keep a tight watch on the tire pressure and rotate them every 5k miles. Also I do some agressive driving in the mountains from time to time, but the rest of the time I have a 60 mile round trip drive to work everyday and it is all straight HWY.

As the previous poster said, keep a tight watch on pressure (which is what I did weekly). And also rotate every 5000.
