Is the Evo X for me?
Is the Evo X for me?
Hello,
Ive done a lot of research on these boards yet I still had a few questions I was hoping you all could help me with. Some background on me to give you an idea of where im coming from. The first car I bought was a 2005 Mustang GT, I loved it. Unfortunately the Mustangs have a leaking problem. ( Rain comes in from various points and basically destroyed my carpet with mold underneath the padding) It was fixed yet the problem constantly returned to the point that I sold it. So I went for a 2008 Mazdaspeed 3. Now I think this car is great, however after driving it for 6 months Ive noticed that the clutch engages to shallow and no matter what position I sit in I am experiencing pain and numbness in my left foot. Doc says I could be getting tendinitis from it and can give me cortisone shots, however the problem will persist (never happened on my GT). So I need to get another car (unfortunately since im going to lose money). The Evo-x MR is on my radar due to the awd and due to the paddle shifters. Now my questions.
- Is the MR for those that have it fun to drive? Im not going to drag race with it, however if I decide to punch it next to someone in another car is the MR respectable? (dont tend to do this as much as I did before).
- Does the MR come standard with the SSS package and the Aero Kit? Dealers couldnt answer this for me. Called about 5.
-Knowing the 2 cars ive had would you say im upgrading? downgrading? Test driving the Evo is one thing but I loved the MS3 on test drives then my foot started after a month of owning.
I know its all personal preference. Just want some opinion on what you all think. I love the way the X looks and I am highly considerating it. Thanks.

The MR is still an Evo, so of course it will be fun to drive. It does come standard with SSS but the Aero kit is more. And the Evo is an upgrade. You just gotta go test drive one and see how you like it.
The evo X is definitely an upgrade and I think they come with leather suede seats. I seen them with the aero kit. The car has a lot of potential too. After I got a ride on a friend's X with the Zchip I'm thinking about getting one too.
It doesn't come with SSS package it comes with the big spoiler and HID, fast key but not the sound system

I never had this condition until after I bought the Mazdaspeed 3. The speed caused it. Thats why i am looking at the MR I dont want another manual at this point.
Reading comprehension FTW. The car he currently owns caused or aggravated the condition. He didn't previously have this problem.

I traded in my 2005 Evo VIII for a 2008 Eclipse GT with every option under the sun. I couldn't resist that 0% for 5 years and the rather high trade-in value that I got from the dealer. I wanted a 6-speed manual with the Eclipse but there wasn't one to be found anywhere. So I had to get the 5-speed sportronic. I miss the driver interaction of the manual transmission but I must say that it's nice to not have to shift so much in traffic. And if you want to control the shifts all you have to do is shift to sportronic mode.
I haven't driven an Evo X - heck, I've never even seen one outside of a dealership. I can speak for the Eclipse, though. It seems slower because of the smoother power band and the absence of boost. However, I must say that it has a remarkable amount of power at the higher end. I think that's because of the of displacement (3.8L V6 mivec). At lower speeds, the Evo wins hands down. But when I pass trucks on the highway, the Eclipse is surprisingly robust, so much so that I can't really tell the difference between it and my Evo VIII (after 80 mph, that is).
Anyway, the Eclipse is a decent car for the money - comfortable, quiet, powerful. It lacks the rawness and the edge of the Evo but it is a viable option should you choose to not go for the MR. You can get a loaded Eclipse GT for $27-28K at 0% for 5 years.

I had an 07 MS3 that I blew the motor on-repaired-then went to an X GSR-I can tell you that on a roll with mods-the MS3 felt a lot faster then my X did-but I loved the handling, AWD, and the fact its not a Ford.
Mods on the MS3 were-TBE, IC upgrade (still a top mount)-boost tubes, BOV, shifter, ect-mods on the X were very similar. Not a down grade-the MR would have you smile the whole time....

The Evo X driving position is an acquired taste. With you description of numbness in your foot, I would highly recommend you try it on for size before making any decisions.
