evo's are made by ralliart(like amg, M division, etc.). I believe it is the Masuzima plant in Japan. But FQ are made by CCC of the UK that is why you cannot import them from japan. Before the FQ's there were the extreme, zero fighters, etc. modified by ralliartuk under the andrew cowan(mitsubishi racing team director) and toney ***(?). now it is renamed as http://www.xtreme-uk.net.

Very informative, thankz!

I felt somehow priviledged thinking Ralliart made the FQs (don't ask me why)... well what does it matter anyways? we won't get to see a 400hp stock Evo here any time soon... (I hope I'm dead wrong).

THESE are exactly the reasons......more than any other single reason.

Did you guys all miss the press announcement that Mitsu was going to sell the FQ400 in the states for the X and the price was estimated at $70,000?

The emissions restrictions in the UK are stiffer than the US. They pay a yearly tax based on the carbon output of their car (evo's would be high, despite the lower displacement). Their cars are also inspected for something called MOT (think CARB equivalent).

The #1 reason why the US doesn't get the cool models is because the dollar would probably be worth more if it were 2 ply. Why would a manufacturer want to import a special low production vehicle to the US so they could sell them for less than they could effectively earn elsewhere? £££ > €€€ > $$$

Actually its just a regular evo X with a few mods done by mitsu UK. They sell the regular evo X and then the FQ's. This means u get a modded evo X under factory warranty. It has nothing to do with emissions as emissions there are much more stringent than in the US.

I think you are dead on with this thought process. Due to power weight restrictions in the states its not likely that we will see a stock 400hp evo for a while.

I think a lot of you guys are incorrect on the exact reasons for the uk getting the good stuff.

The reason the uk can do them is that there is that the laws for low volume production models is very lax. An independent distributor/importer can install mods without having to go through a huge process.
Also, you can import basically anything from anywhere and get it registered without and huge certification issues.

In the US, you have to get every little change certified this costs a fortune. (Probably a hangover from protectionist market policys to protect the big three over the years....)

The cost here is so high, that it would not be a financially viable project for the volumes involved.
Try importing an 22b from Japan and see how much fun it is to get plates for it....

Also, the 70k evo thing doesn't reallly matter, when every other car there sells for an equally inflated in price.

In the uk all you do is pass this, http://www.svauk.co.uk/ and any car you want you can get plates for

Because they'll pay $60,000 for a lightly modded Evo and we won't.

How many times must I say it? The USA gets dirt cheap cars. Stop comparing them with the rest of the world based on price. U have cheap cars and cheap petrol so stop rubbing it in :'(
