Idle issues with aftermarket intake.

If you have an aftermarket intake and are having idle problems after your install please post what type of intake you have. I have an AGP CAI intake and Ecutek tune. I have spent two weeks trying to figure out how to fix it but no dice. I am gonna try building a heat shield to see if that works and maybe putting back my stock intake to see if it still happens. Thanks for the help.

Have you seached? Many of the idling issues with an open element intake have to do with the fan switching on and the air hitting the intake.

Yes, I've herd of others having this issue with aftermarket intakes. But, here is the weird thing a friend of mine has the same intake I have but he is having no issues at all with his idle. I also have another friend who has a custom GT Pro cone style intake facing right at the AC fan and he has no issues. So I'm lost, I have all these parts I have sitting in my garage but I won't install them until I figure this whole idle thing out. Also if I do decide to buy another intake I don't want to waste my money on one that will give me idle problems.

For my comment? Basically you can tune the car as far as you want without the intake ever really becoming a restriction with the stock turbo.

Intakes DO make power on a car that doesnt have a tune though because they lean out the AFR...but with the tune you can lean out the AFR on your own, thus negating the need for an intake at all.

I have an intake on my tuned car soley for the sound...I dyno tested my car with stock airbox and with a totally open filter and actually lost power with the open filter.

I would think if you are tuned with the intake that it would all balance out. I have a Injen intake and sometimes she idles rough.

Mine does this too. Just wait till you start to get the CELs like I am getting. You will get CELs if the temp drops and then you ask them about it and they say they don't know why because it hasn't happend before.

My intention is just to see what other intakes are having this problem and to share with the rest of the community to beware that the X's don't like open element filters. I can't stand Idle problems and I'm sure others don't like it either. I haven't been able to stop my idling from stumbling. I can't tell you how many countless hours I have tried fixing this with my tuner with no dice. So I have been contemplating on buying a new intake like AEM's because it has a box that protects the hot air from influencing the MAF. But it seems like everyone is saying that I don't even need an intake to make power, so I might go back to stock because I already have the HKS panel filter. Just sucks cause AGP's intake looks so nice and I don't want to get rid of it. I will let u guys know when I figure this out.

Thanks for the replies, please post what aftermarket intakes u have even if u don't have idle problems.

I have the AGP one too and it is doing to same thing so I to will be going back to stock. I dont think they did enough R&D on this intake {thumbdwn** . AGP said to get it tuned and that would fix it but it sounds like you have tried that.

i have 10k miles on my evo and have driven it untuned with the Nisei full pipe kit for about 3k miles. I was part of the RazorLab tune test group and we found that my stock spark plugs became fouled most likely due to the 9.X stock AFR tune from the factory. I replaced my plugs and my idle became much better you might want to pull your one of your plugs to see how much soot is stuck to them.

I noticed today that when I run my AC, the idle doesn't stumble. When I get a chance I will log what the AFR, timing, and rpm speed is doing when the AC is on. Then I am going to tune my car to mimic it without the AC on. I will let you know if it works.
