Yes it was pulled and tested and it was shot ( 250 miles ). I was told there is a problem with the battery and a lot of them are coming back which is why there is a wait. On a side note dealer called and got my new batter installed today
Thanks Smoothy for info. Let us know how new battery starts; obviously it will be better than a dead one but interested in whether it really starts up on first try/turn. Also, did they install another OEM battery or a different one. If the latter, what is the brand?

This happened to me for the first time last night. It's been "slow" staring since day 1 but yesterday was just weird. It was literally 15 F in the morning and the car started fine. Then in the evening it was 50ish (massachusetts for you) and

- i cranked it for about 5-6 seconds it didnt start
- tried again for about 5 seconds, same thing
- tried again and pumped the gas a pedal a bit and it fired right up

I think its something other than the battery? Or perhaps at least in my case.

Starter problems probably not due to cold weather....

I had the starter problem again yesterday, we had a warm-front and the temps were 55. So as many others have pointed out, the problem happens in cold and warm weather...so its probably not due to cold weather....

I did pull my battery cable off while doing some work a couple weeks ago, and did not do the idle relearn procedure I've been reading about....I don't know if that's caused my starter issues or not. My car idles smoothly, so I never went through the hassle to relearn. The starter problem is not consistent so it'd be hard to point to that as the cause. Just thinking out loud...

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only Evo X owner with the problem....hopefully we'll reach a consensus and find the cause...

Installed another OEM battery and it cranks up really fast, 1-2 seconds max. I had a cheap battery from Walmart in the car while I was waiting for the new battery. It had the exact problems others are mention as far as taking a while to crank up and start.

If it's your starter when you bang on it with a hammer or heavy object it should start right up next time you crank it.

I am confused with your last sentence. Are you suggesting a poor connection?

No, if the starter is going bad you will have a clicking noise and it won't start. One of the ways you can tell your starter is going bad is by hitting it with a hammer or heavy object when it won't start. If it starts after you have hit it a few times your starter is going bad.

If you are referring to the "cheap" battery I installed temporally that wouldn't start up right away it's because it didn't have enough juice.
