Doggy MR

So I asked over on Driving Technique and got squat. I'll try over here.

Is there any way to improve standing start launch on the MR other than the 5000 rpm launch mode? Consensus on that mode is it's very hard on SST.

When I just floor the car, it hesitates about a second then moves out gently for 20 feet before taking off. Using a hard brake check and flooring throttle a second or two then releasing brake doesn't seem much better.

Anything else worth trying?

that is you problem/// U got an 08 MR...

If you wanted to launch a car you should have gotten a GSR...
I don't think you'll find a better way to launch w/ out a 5 spd

As a MR owner, I would have to agree with him lol

The thing is 5k launch is probably the best technique you can use right now, until people start figuring out the ECU of the SST. You can always try neutral drop, but I think the SST is smart enough to stop you from doing that.

Same thing applies to the GSR, not just the MR.

It bogs from a stop.

Oh well, isn't that a characteristic of AWD?

I wouldn't say the GSR always bogs from a start, but it certainly isn't the easiest car in the world to launch, and that is pretty much true with all AWD cars w/ stock clutch.

Hopefully you're smart enough to stop yourself from doing a neutral drop. This ain't your daddy's IROC.

I bought the MR for dual purpose, DD and track. DD, I don't care about launch. Track in my case is rallycross. Last RX I ran had one launch and a dozen downshifts, a dozen upshifts. I thought hard about which model to buy, but the GSR helps me once and the MR helps me a couple dozen times per lap. Choice seemed pretty clear.

The delay is no problem...I can launch a second early. I'll live with the the gentle acceleration for 20 ft if I have to. The start line gets all torn up anyway, so no one has traction for 10 or 20 ft. Might work out fine.

But if anyone has worked out a better technique, I'm interested.

Please tell me whats a good RPM to launch ??

Do you want to launch in NORM or SPORT or S-SPT only ??

What else do you want in the launch mode ??

Sorry .. the delay I can't help .. its for gearbox protection .. you don't want the delay .. release the brakes before you reach the limiter .. if you let it bounce off the limiter, it will delay a short while before engaging ..

Hard to answer those questions. Looking for performance in between the bat-out-of-hell 5000 rpm mode, and the get-going-when-I-damn-well-feel-like-it mode.

Don't know which tranny mode I'll compete in but I'll try both Sport and S-Sport and decide which works best.

I'm guessing the slow take-off is related to no boost, so I'll be trying to find a way to get a little boost going before launch. And I think you're right about bouncing off the rev limiter being a problem. Some of my test launches were somewhat better than others, and it may be I caught it just before it hit the 3000 rpm limit.
