That being said, I don't doubt that if a test were done now, with the same driver, on VIR with those three cars, that the times of all three would be very similar, with the SS/TC STILL being the quickest among the three.
Yes i know. But in this forum everybody comperes everything.
And no matter what , just by numbers.
I just got used to it.

Cobalt SS is nowhere near Evo X. it's all about the sales. GM is in trouble and they need to make their selfs look good so they can get people to come buy their cars. Cobalt SS is a joke, I am speaking from experience. I had many friends who dumped money in them and where very very disappointed. Don't worry about TV. You got an Evo be happy. Imagine how the Exotic cars feel when they get their a$$ handed to them by us. LOL now thats sad.

So the performance numbers are all because of GM?

The SS/TC has only been out a few months, so how much can they dump in them when there is no aftermarket other than a tune for now and maybe a hahn intake and exhaust?

The fact of the matter is, the new cobalt performs similarly to the stock X. While I think overall the X is a little faster, it isn't faster by much. The x is 400 lbs heavier than the cobalt! The X is a lead sled compared to the much lighter Cobalt SS. The Evo is no longer way ahead of the pack...its heavier weight is making it much easier for lighter cars to compete. Watch out for the new 370z and hyundai genesis coupe, you just might find that these cars leave the X behind...

Sure the SS is a great car in stock form, but I would say it's limitations are reached much sooner than is the case with the evo when upgrades are concerned. The fact is that the X came out running pig rich and needing 2 flashes just to make it run OK - a failure by MITSU to be sure, but something probably not accounted for in any of these test runs. And even so, just look at the amount of power the engine has produced from simple bolt-ons. Couple that with tremendous handling, and it's an entirely different car than the SS.

If you bought your X to run it stock, you probably should have considered a used z06 for the price, or even a cobalt SS and saved some coin. The X is for people who want to tune and unleash the raw capabilities the car has hidden under the hood. Stop getting all mad because another manufacturer came out with a car that is extremely well balanced and near the peak of it's potential which happens to compete with the stock form of the evolution X. It's unattractive and reeks of superiority issues.
++++++++10000
I completely agree here. When it comes to modifying a FWD for track duties, it will meet its ceiling of performance very fast compared to the Evo. FWD track cars rarely see above 400whp, because they are not able to fully utilize that kind of power when cornering. They are traction limited. Stock for stock, yeah the cobalt may win, but when it comes to which platform has the most potential, the winner is obvious.

Do you also know that the lighter Evo IX is slower than the Evo X on the same track that they tested the X and this Cobalt SS at? That would make it faster than an Evo VIII, especially the 03 model which is the lightest of the USDM Evos.

That was in the past, but not these days...

Throw on slicks and catless minimal bend exhausts on the following cars and they would wipe the floor with you on tracks no matter how much your EVO is modded; viper, z06/zr1, gt2/gt3 rs, gt-r, lp-560, F430 scuderia. This list doesn't even include limited run supercars that may or may not be still in production, such as - enzo, fxx, mc12, carrera gt, zonda series, ccx-r/ccx/ccr, nor the famous kit cars - high end versions from ariel, caterham, donkervoort, radical, westfield, ultima etc.

Anyways back to Chevy Cobalt, watch Best Motoring come up with some video showing Civic Type R beating it lol. If the conditions are fair, Cobalt should beat the CTR of course, even the Mugen RR.

as exotic cars you mean what ? Or are you referring to the countless videos that people with 10k civic beat vettes , ferraris etc.? If so take this into account 95 % of people who buy exotics buy it for the looks then the performance. Do you think they really truly care if some big 4 door lancer looking evo beats them... not a chance. Because most likely they could have bought 5 of our cars just for fun.

the evo is slower stock. who cares. Both cars are dog slow in terms are acceleration stock. i bought my evo because i can mod it to 500+whp and still be usable and fast and handles great. Fwd sucks *** after 300whp. i been through high power fwd cars before and burns outs and traction problems gets boring after a while.
