I was driving this morning on the highway at an average of 70mph and i hear a slight ticking. It sounds a lot like how the old 4G motors would have valve tick but I'm noticing it coming from the firewall.

Do you think it's the turbo? I wonder if its normal for the rest of you guys as well. I dont think I always had that sound but normally I have my radio up. This time though I heard it with the radio up. My car is bone stock so it's no error on my part. What do you guys think? I dont notice any loss in power but the noise definately gets louder as I accelerate. Could be the turbo?

 

stock heatshield rattling metal to metal would be my guess

 

thanks davidiii i'll definately check that out during my lunch break. i was really annoyed that with only 1k on the odometer i already have something to complain about.

 

Be carefull when checking that heatsheild not only is it extremly hot but the side of it are really sharp. I cut the crap out of my hand on it.

 

Rapid high speed ticking? May be your fuel injectors. Pop your hood in the driveway at idle and see if the ticking sounds the same...definately a noticble sound. If so its normal.

 

lol gump if only i had a good microphone i would let you hear my engine "tick". I've had the car into the dealership several times to keep them documenting the progressiveness of the problem. They tell me Mitsubishi is aware of the excessive engine noise and is working to figure it out. They cannot replace any parts to fix it as the car still functions. I was told that until the engine fils, they cant do anything.

btw my tick is getting to the point now that people actually comment on it at red lights.
