benefit of going to dealer for first oil change?
The only problem w/ dealers is they don't really care about your car...
If they mess up their insurance got it but think about it who wants any harm small or little to happen to their own cars...
I personally had a bad experience with the dealership...
I was the last customer of the day and they couldn't get my car in that same day so they gave me a loaner. I thought wow what a nice deal ok... Next day while riding back to get my car I see my car and the service guy or whoever tearing it up on the streets... I didn't say anything much but I never came back again... My car was dropped and who knows how many pot holes around that dealership... I'm sure I got a couple dings on my exhaust or whatever...
2nd was my friends ride dealer did an oil change didn't screw on the bolt tight enough or whatever he leaked oil out of the dealer and lucky he spotted the trail and took it back before it got too low... That could have been a horrible situation...
Long story short... Do it yourself because if you mess up you know you're at fault and learn from your old mistake... AND IT IS CHEAPER!

I won't let anyone touch my car because everyone who has........well they fucced something up. Let's see, Tweeter-broke plastic tabs under the dash, broke seatbelt cover, left nasty pry marks in spots where they had to pull up panels. Tint Shop-Cut some weather stripping around my back window while doing the install. Mitsu Dealer-scratched up my wheels while installing new tires. Firestone-they left my oil drain plug on my RSX loose and it blew out while I was doing 70+mph. Luckily I was able to shut the motor off before it blew.

The whole point of servicing at the dealership is to develop a relationship as well as service history. That way in the future if you have any issues, you can always point to the dealer. Also when you go out of warranty, and you need major work, your service history will help with getting goodwill from Mitsubishi. I always service with the dealership no matter how much of a P.I.T.A. it is. If you don't service make sure you keep all your oil change receipts.
I'm coming up on 3k miles and need to get my oil changed. I would do it myself but since its in the 20's i really don't want to be outside. So i am going to A) take it to the dealer or B) take it to my local shop.
I would like to take it to the shop due to the fact i know the guy and its about 3 min from my house. But i wasn't sure if i would be better off driving 30min and taking it to the dealer. I just wasn't sure if they did some sort of inspection or something since its my first oil change.
What do you guys recommend?
thanks for the help

Dealers might give you a free oil change but rotations of the tires are $150 or car wash is free but inspections are $80.

Every time I've ordered something, I have to call them to see if my part is in, even though every time they insist "oh we'll call you when the part is in". I give them plenty of time, honestly 2 weeks is enough time for them to get me a replacemnt shift knob. So I call, again, and of cousre the part was in and they were "just about to call" me. I have to schedule an apointment to install my shift knob, and of course its the WRONG shift knob...AND they didn' have any popcorn made.
I hope I can put up with this while owning a Mitsubishi over a long period of time. it was so nice dealing with Acura when i owned a 97 integra GSR, they had better coffee too lol.
Why in the world would you let the dealer wash your car anyway.. They probably use screwed up hard brush and go hard on your car anyway... No respect... Swirls... Come on go buy 80-100 worth of cleaning supplies and do it yourself...
Fresno Mitsubishi offered me the first oil change for free when I bought my car. However, I will be doing it myself. It's worth the $40 or so it will cost me for oil and filter to NOT have some tech touch my car. You never know...
Tod? Those guys I swear...tod and the service manager(s!) acted like they were offended when I had a coupon THEY sent me for a free oil change. It was like a big deal and they would NOT honor the coupon. instead i had to pay $20...which is the first and last oil change i'll get there. their excuse was their "new PR people" were sending out coupons to everyone, which they were not supose to do.

john, look for zach in the parts department. he is awesome and always hooks me up. not hard to talk to at all. other than brian in the service department i will only recommend zach in the parts department. funny you should say that everytime you call the first thing they say is "oh i was just going to call you" line cuz they always say that to me too.
yeah lately i notice no popcorn and coffee too.
