benefit of going to dealer for first oil change?

I'm coming up on 3k miles and need to get my oil changed. I would do it myself but since its in the 20's i really don't want to be outside. So i am going to A) take it to the dealer or B) take it to my local shop.

I would like to take it to the shop due to the fact i know the guy and its about 3 min from my house. But i wasn't sure if i would be better off driving 30min and taking it to the dealer. I just wasn't sure if they did some sort of inspection or something since its my first oil change.

What do you guys recommend?
thanks for the help

The first oil change from the dealer is free, but I still wouldn't do it.

Just take it to the local shop. I used mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-30 and a mobil 1 m1-110 filter.

I don't see any reason to take it to the dealer, especially considering their $80+ price tag on an oil change.

^I guess that depends on where you bought your car. My dealer never offered me a free oil change.

The stealership in Edmonton, Canada didn't offer squat. It was a battle just to get an ipod cable included and I'm still fighting with them to have it installed...

I would imagine somewhere between $75-$150 depending on how much pain the dealer wants to inflict.

i'd check to see if your first one is free. they're required to hook it up to the medic for every little thing including oil changes. if you haven't had reflashes yet and want them then this is the time to get them. but it all depends on which dealer in the philly area you bought from.

Oil Change at my local dealership was going to be $68. I just did it myself.
