I hit a tree
I work in insurance, if you hit a tree regardless of the weather, YOU ARE AT FAULT.. They cannot deny a claim if you didnt make a police report. However, they CAN increase your premium, it really comes down to the insurance. I have progressive and i had a 14k claim last year on my Evo IX and when my renewal came, my insurance was lower
Dont ask me howOnce you get a check, you can take the car to which ever place you wana get it fixed at. Just speak to the claim adjuster

No, you do not need a police report to file a claim. Where did you get this idea.
Even when there are other cars involved, you don't need a police report. Just file the claim and explain what happened. You will be fine....unless you left out some important details....but it doesn't look like there should be an issue.
I am sure there were hundreds of claims filed on the east coast the past few weeks due to the weather. And I bet 90% don't have a police report.
What are you worried about anyway???

If you call you insurance company and file the accident all they will do is list it as an at fault accident like someone else already said...you will have to pay your deductible and you insurances payments will go up probably within the next 2 payments...depending on if you pay monthly or every 6 months...

Hey can report it as hit and run, unless its too obvious that he hit a tree by the marks on the car
Man that sucks but this is why I live in the south for it doesn't snow and our insur. is much lower then most places for I was in the military and now i'm 25 out of the military and only pay $82 a month. As far as tring to get one over on the insur company I wouldn't try it for if they find you are not telling the truth about the wreck they can have trailed and put in jail. Just my .02
AWD is Evo is great in snowy conditions -- when you're using snow tires....
I guess the Yokohama Ultra High Performance All-Seasons aren't so great in the snow afterall...
Good luck with it all. On a side note, I don't suggest doing anything that could be considered insurance fraud. But that's just my opinion.

Seriously, think about your statement.
Same thing happened to me. I totaled an Evo on what was ruled as my fault because I swerved to avoid someone and wet off the road (grass and trees were softer than an 18-wheeler). It was a $24,000 write-off and when I got my next Evo a week later, my insurance was actually cheaper for it. It even went down again after having that policy for 6 months.
Filing a claim too.
So I hit my car on the side of a 1 1/2 foot wall, more like scrapped it from the side and got stuck.
Story:
Brother just bought a new house and it's located on a hill. So I left my g/f house at around 11:00pm and headed home. I pulled into the path that leads to the driveway of the house, then where the driveway meets the peak of hill, I looked and thought everything was clear.
Of course I was wrong and ended up scraping my right side from the front right fender to the rear right fender. I want to go through insurance, but I'm just like everybody else, worried about getting my rates hiked. I got an estimate and they said it'd be about 3-4k because it dented the door, rocker panel, and etc.
I guess my question is, should I just go through insurance then? I guess I'll file a claim now.
