I took it to a bodyshop (M1 AutoSports) and was quoted that amount. I haven't had time to take it to others for estimates as of yet. My insurance company is wawanesa. I've only had them for 4 months. So I'm guessing I should just file a claim then?

If you killed the tree you are looking at jail time.

Bottom line you hit a tree. Why would an insurance company need a report on that. The damage is there. It happened. All you need is to bring it in. If there was another party involved where damage to property or persons other than yourself that is a different story. I know with state Farm that if you file a claim over $750 your rates will increase upon renewal. Yes you will have to file a claim unless you want to fork out the cash.

Hope this helps.

I used to be a claims examiner handling auto litigation in Ca.
Find and read your policy. This will provide the most concise info on how your claim will be handled. Check your declarations page to determine the full scope of your coverage. Check the limitations on your collision coverage, which is the applicable coverage for the repairs. Most policies only provide for like kind and quality, meaning they will try to use reconditioned OEM parts. Check to see if they have a betterment clause, which means that if they make your vehicle in a condition better than it was before the loss, you will have to pay a portion of it. Insurers usually charage betterment on stuff like tires, replacing a new one for an old one.

Most likely loss will be chargeable. Tell the truth. When an insurer discovers a fraudlent claim, they can rescind the policy.

Well everything seems to be going pretty smooth. The adjuster is coming to my house either 2morrow or Thursday to give me an estimate and a check. They said my insurance will not be going up because I have the accident forgiveness policy. And also they dont care what shop I bring it to.

So my plan is to take it to the dealership because they seems to be the only place that can get factory painted parts...paint matching seems to be my biggest worry right now, everything else is minor...any other suggestions?

I'll try to get a few pics up when I get a chance to take them...

Says in his sig he's running yoko advan.S4 "all seasons", not a summer tire at all..

I'm running the same tires and posted my first evo+Advan.S4+snow impressions here and was definitely over confident right up until the first slick turn that didn't turn... Sucks you weren't as fortunate when you discovered the the lack of "Hand Of God" aka S-AWC, at least in the wrong conditions. Glad nobody was hurt, evo's heal
Even after several second and third chances, I have had a few "oh-****" moments, but luck's holding, and over-confidence is fading... at least in snow&ice. Slush, light snow, rain, now that's still a blast!
