Maybe somebody should make some good gas struts to help things out?

Your post makes no sense what so ever....and by the way you commented it looks like you like to praise yourself.

You might think the trunk is heavy but for those, like myself who go to the gym and can lift groceries in one hand and can open the trunk without hesistation, get dirty working on my own car and don't give a ****....don't mind that the trunk has weight.

Simply stating that in windy parts of the country... Evo VIIIs or XIs trunks would blow open almost smashing the wing into the rear window, which almost happened to me if I didn't catch it in time and by the way I had my gym bag in my hand if you wanted to know.

If you wanted an automatic trunk then get a luxury car.

PS: I never had an automatic trunk in the 17 years I've been driving and I don't need one

Now that's a design flaw. If the trunk could open and smash the wing into the window, there's a problem. The X does not suffer from this.

The main issue with the trunk is not that it's heavy, which it is, but rather the complex hinge mechanism used to make sure we can use more of the trunk. The downside of the complex hinge is that you feel the weight. Compare that to, say, a Honda/Acura or Toyota who uses a spring to make the trunk feel weightless. In contrast, Mitsubishi had to include a gas strut just to keep the thing from falling down.

That said, I'm glad they made the choice they did. With the trunk as small as it is, we can use every extra inch.

Well Mas, perhaps I should write IN BIG LETTERS AND IN SMALL WORDS SO THAT YOU CAN UNDERSTAND OK?

If your old trunk with a spoiler on it almost broke your window because it was too light, then obviously there was a design flaw there.

As well, if you have ever driven any other vehicle with a trunk, there are hand holds designed on the trunk so that you can lift the trunk. The Evo X's trunks are automatic trunks that open by push button or remote. Just because you don't understand why or how they work doesn't mean that everybody else needs to be an ignorant ogre like you. My point was that Mitsubishi could have designed a nook at the bottom of the trunk so that you could lift it without the need to pry your fingers under the trunk. I'm not trying to compare my 350lb bench press, or the fact that I can do 100 pushups, 100 situps, 100 squats and 100 chinups in one work out. Oh right, those workouts are done when I'm not training for my marathon in April.

Lastly, don't turn this into a debate about how much weight you can press compared to me because you make too many assumptions little man about someone you have never met who you know think you understand through 2 computer screens. Just because you are satisfied with being a dirty, classless idiot who prides himself with ignorance doesn't mean every other Evolution owner needs to be the same as you.

This thread was aimed towards the clear design flaws to the Evo X trunk and when you understand what the purpose of an automatic trunk is for or how one is supposed to operate then make your comments. Nobody cares that you think you are a musclehead or that you enjoy poor hygiene or that you are content with flawed components. If you have anything else to say, please do so through a pm so that you don't make us all stupider with your comments.

The only reason I don't think the trunk pop was thought through all the way is the button for cars w/ fast key. This button was supposed to be a convenience for when you are carrying something, so you don't have to put it down, etc. The other day, a co-worker and I were carrying a few boxes and had no free hand to open the trunk. I managed to hit the trunk button, but then we couldn't get the trunk lifted. Obviously I was able to use the wing to lift it, but I don't think using the wing as leverage is a great solution. Not sure what I would have done if I was wingless.

On the other hand, I'm glad there's no cutout on the trunk for your hand to fit under, it wouldn't flow with the geometry of the car. Perhaps if the trunk popped open a little more and there was a catch that you had to release, much like the hood? But that would be an inconvenience after not too long. Either way, we can all agree that the trunk doesn't pop open enough.

reading through all these threads about petty things that are wrong in the X, i am convinced that the majority of X owner are the entirely wrong demographic for owning one. i know mitsu was aiming at a new demographic to help sales but it embarrasses me to be lumped in with this sort of crowd.

the X is a great car inside and out. just enjoy and stop griping about little things like rattling dashes, damaged paint, notchy shifting, smoke, smell, sounds, uncomfortable seats, etc. or just trade it in for something that you're all completely happy with.

geez.

Yeah, we wouldn't want Mitsubishi to actually make any of these things better for future models. It's best to only mention its strong points, and not its flaws. That always results in the product improving

What you do is this.... pop it and then when it doesn't open you kick the SH*T out of it like 10 times... don't worry about the paint, then you go to your local dealership and tell them they are going to fix it under warranty and like it because Mitsubishi made it to not come up the way you want and you kicking it was your way of opening it so you want a new trunk that opens when you press that damn button.
