Can't shift to 1st, 3rd, and 5th

So I reverse out of my friends driveway, put the car into 1st and accelerate normally, shift to 2nd, and then when I try to shift to 3rd it just won't go into gear. I then try 5th and it is locked out as well. I stop the car and try going into 1st, no luck. So at this point I only have 2nd, 4th, and reverse.

When I try to put it into 1st, 3rd, or 5th I can just barely push it into each position but it feels like something is blocking it.

Any ideas on what went wrong?

I would take it to your mitsu dealer....since they will take the stress off you and most likely figure out the problem and solve it for you.....

The dealer solving a problem? Don't get your hopes up

I haven't heard of this problem. Call up the 1-800 Mitsu number and have it towed to the dealer. Exercise that warranty if you still have it.

Sounds like a cable adjustment, stretched cable, etc. if you've had the console apart recently, make sure nothing is fouling the lever from moving forward.

I think I've heard of the dealer being very tough on the warranty of the X also. If calling the 1-800 Mitsu # works....Go for it. As long as Mitsu gets it fixed....that's all that matters. it's about time for Mitsu to show that they care for their customers.

^ I'm sure they'll put up a hell of a fight, but I suppose it's worth a shot if the car is still stock.

You've got a cable broken, kinked or come loose. If you're under warranty and haven't touched it (short shifter, shifter bushings, etc.) then this is definitely something to see the dealer about.

Just be careful you don't destroy the clutch getting there!

Is there something blocking the gear box i.e. a cat, etc?

this happend to my buddys about 3 months ago, only he has a subby lol but same exact thing and we were at a light!. after we pushed the car to a parking lot, we shut it off, rocked it a couple times, and were just praying it didnt blow up . But just right out of the ordinary this car did it, and all of a sudden it stoped. weird.

I occasionally get locked out of gears, for thirty seconds or so. Usually revving high then back down then trying it again works for me.

Whenever I'm locked out though my clutch feels a lot lower to the floor though.

Not sure what might cause it but I do know that the GSR uses 1st and 3rd to make reverse gear. Might have something to do with it if you had just come out of reverse. No idea about 5th though. Good luck and talk to your dealer.

Yeah, I'm taking it to the dealer today. Was just hoping I could tell them what the problem is.

I forsee my clutch getting burnt out by a porter trying to move the car in 2nd gear.
